The Asda I use has always had the facility to account for your own bags but Tesco didn't and it bugged me as I ALWAYS use my own bags. Then a month ago they had all their self-service tills re-fitted.....and they STILL don't have the 'own bag' option. I put my own bag there, let it ring the alarm and the assistant overrode it. She couldnt believe they'd gone through the refit without putting the facility in there but apparently there's no plans to change again...and Tesco are one of the keenest for rewarding green bag reuse!!

Tesco's around here have done it for a while, even before the new self service tills were put in.

I don't know what other B & Q stores are like but my local store has recently installed self-service check-outs and removed ALL manned tills. I have been through them 3 times since they were installed and every single time, the machine either won't recognise an item or won't accept cash or just simply freezes. I thought it was just me but every single other person is having the same problem. There are two assistants who must hate them more than anyone because of the abuse people are giving them! Why don't these stores realise that they are too much trouble to use!!

Where is this store...as l would avoid going there on Wednesday mornings ;)

Mine has one with staff taking goods the rest are self service. Dont have any problems with them, although other week you had to ask for 20% off which had to be manually done which is understandable

I dont use supermarket ones as they seem to be for small amount of goods

I agree with the OP. The last few times I have been to BandQ, there has been one staff 'helping' at the self-serve tills with huge queues, and noone at the manned tills. Surely the point of these tills is to make things quicker, in addition to the usual queues, not to replace them altogether.

Our local one is like that in the evening. Although the larger 'Warehouse' has got both.

Scan your first item (try and make it something heavyish) put it in your own bag and place both on scales together. Has always worked for me!

That still shouldn't work as the scales are fairly accurate and the weight of each item is programmed into the system so that it knows that you have scanned a bottle of coke and not put a TV on the scales.

mine has a mix of self serve and manned, with staff directing you to self serve at busy times...

Twice I have made that mistake, and twice I have stood and watched as the queue of 30 people with barcodeless bits of wood have gotten through the manned checkout quicker that I have through the self serve....
