B & Q - self service checkouts

I don't know what other B & Q stores are like but my local store has recently installed self-service check-outs and removed ALL manned tills. I have been through them 3 times since they were installed and every single time, the machine either won't recognise an item or won't accept cash or just simply freezes. I thought it was just me but every single other person is having the same problem. There are two assistants who must hate them more than anyone because of the abuse people are giving them! Why don't these stores realise that they are too much trouble to use!!

I seem to recall that B&Q was subject to a CHIP & PIN Fraud when CIP & PIN was first introduced. Maybe this would allow customer to perpetrate more frauds?

Personally, I would never use self-service checkout anywhere; I simply don't like being spied on my staff who are on the lookout for criminals!

I certainly wasn't aware of any chip and pin fraud at the time of the introduction (I worked for them at that point) it did however take a long time (6 months if I recall) to introduce tills that would accept c&p

I use self service tills at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's. Rarely have an issue with them.

I think they are a great idea, and save lots of time for smaller single basket shops.

Theres a Morrisons near my office and the queues for the normal tills are HUGE. Every time I try and use the self checkout it throws an error of some kind. Its odd as I never have problems with other companies ones....

People are always moaning about checkout staff, then when they get rid of them, they moan even more.

And put people out of work.

Evolution. Someone somewhere designs, manufacture, assembles, delivers, installs and services those machines. Someone monitors them, purchases them, empties the cash from them and fills them with till roll.

We don't have may cobblers, smithies or coopers anymore either. Move with the times or become extinct.

If people want to work they will find work.
