Carpet fitter broke bed, picture and fitted 3 joints instead of 1

Options
As the title says i had 2 bedroom carpets fitted just over a week ago, i agreed with the local carpet shop that as my bedroom is quite large i would need a join somewhere ( it's 17ft x 23 ft ) this was going along the back wall where the bed is.
Once the fitter had finished he pointed out that he had scorched the carpet when fitting and had to put 3 pieces along the back wall, two small squares in each corner then a long strip in the middle.
i'm not very confrontational and just said ok but he knew i wasn't happy about it.
After he left i noticed a picture in my bedroom had been knocked of the wall, chipped the skirting board and left a black mark on it and broke the glass in the picture, he just hung it back up on the wall. Later that evening when my daughter went to get into bed her mattress dipped in the middle, there was a slat missing. We checked the bags of rubbish the fitters had left but the piece wasn't there!! The bed is from laura ashley and cost £450 and they dont supply replacement slats,
Eventually got to speak to the shop manager today and he was quite aloof about it, he said the fitters moved the bed as a favour and the fitter agreed that he had broken the picture but not the bed, He insisted the fitter come back out and try to mend the patched up carpet with the leftovers that i had ( i was going to use this in one of the other childrens smaller bedrooms! )
I told him i didn't really want the fitter back in my home after the damage he has done and i dont really want to face him to be honest after complaining.
Has anybody had similar problems with independant carpet shops, the thing i'm most gutted about is my daughters bed, he said the fitter has liability insurance but thats no good when hes denying doing the damage.
Any suggestions on what to do would be great.
Thanks

You expected them to fit a Bedroom Carpet, with the bed still in it?

If you look in your terms and conditions it is very likely to say that they will only work in empty rooms.

The bed nor the picture should have been there really.

if it was a slatted bed it would have unscrewed and come apart, presumably thats how it got there.
(if it was too big to get out i presume it would have been too big to go through the door when it was new.
(and the manager really had no right to speak for the fitters, they were probably sub contracted to do the job.)

You should have got it in writing, his word against yours I'm afraid.

If you look in Ikea they sell slats in there or you could just get someone to make you one to match the others. Shouldnt be too big of a job.

A new picture frame or a new piece of glass would sort your other problem out,

Lol, that's me told then, i'm not looking at getting something for nothing, a picture can be replaced, the slat not so easily, as he took the broken piece he also took the rubber ends that keep it fitted snugly in the metal frame.
I think i'm just peed of with yet another workman coming into my house, we pay him hard earned cash and he trashes the place.
I think it really was the straw that broke the camels back, the room being carpeted was an extension, the builder decided to do a runner with £19k and it's taken us over 3 years of beg stealing and borrowing to get it finished and we have been turned over more than a few times, (begging to think we have mug tattood on our forehead).
Don't want any freebies or to get anyone in trouble just want my house to be left the way it was found, not to much to ask for.
But thanks for the advice, maybe i am taking it a bit too seriously, need to take a chill pill. :p

I really feel for you and i do understand your frustration, 10 years ago,
we had the same thing going on with a conservatory. You think youre
doing well and one door opens and the other one slams you in the face,
Troubles always comes in threes lol

Have a look at the Ikea website, i dont think they sell them singly but i think a whole set is only about £15 or so.

Hope things go okay for you.

    Regards
    Annie

If you move the slat from the foot of the bed to the iddle, it shouldn't sag so much until you get a new one.

Dad had a carpet business now retired. If it was me I would insist that the carpet is replaced and fitted properly with only one join.
Sounds like I could have done a better job sounds very patch work !!!
He was obviously sealing the joints with an iron at he burnt the carpet its his error. Is it really noficable.
The fitters will be insured for what happened and you should not be out of pocket on the carpet left over which was for another room.
A compermise would be for the firm to order a piece so it is fitted in one join to go behind the bed(at their expense.)
Put it in writting and wait for a response and send photos if possible.
    Hope it works out.

if its wool carpet or mix you use a special iron and tape to join the pieces together but a pro will have no trouble doing this if they are careful. It gives a better finish and is stronger and the joins arent so noticeable but you can still see them.
