do I need to use wi fi to be able to watch tv programmes

You need internet connection it could be 3G or Wifi

Wifi - This is faster than 3G, that's the reason it is preferred.

But still 3G you are able to watch tv programs.

wifi is just transmitting your broadband singal to your home upto 100 meter, it does not work itself. I'm always laugh when these 02,vodofone and orange when they say free unlimited wifi, wifi is my home network installed/broadcost by me. why do you need to give unlimited wifi to me. Crazy provider happy to cheat average non techie people innocence. This is complete cheating i hope someone will raise this question and catch these people and stop advertise this soon. Here is my initiative.

In order to broadcast your internet, you need wireless router £40, that will send wifi signals inside your home and upto 100 meters.

Not at all. WIFI is free and 3G will eat up your carrier download very fast indeed. TV progs are well over 600Mb each so two 2 or 3 tv progs and you are into very high data charges.

I use an iTouch to watch tv from iplayer no problems.

When that is advertised it is in relation to the many thousands of WiFi hotspots around the country provided by services like The Cloud which you would otherwise have to pay to access, not your wireless connection at home..

tvcatchup works perfectly on my iphone, either through 3g or wifi, as does iplayer, be carefull of your phone contract though, using 3g is using your internet allowance, despite the fact that some say unlimited and others say 500mb download limit the contract wording for every service provider states "subject to fair usage policy" (its the same for unlimited texts), which you can interpret as you see fit to
