Installing SKY+ HD yourself - help!

Hi, I have an old sky+ box (doesnt have sky anytime on it)that only connects to my new HD TV by scart and doesnt have enough storage so was wondering if I bought a new HD box ( see loads on Ebay - are they ok if good feedback? Any types to avoid?) would it be simple to fit? Would i need to do anything to the dish etc? I phoned Sky and tried to get an offer but for a new HD box - not with that big capacity compared to those you can buy - they wouldnt give me any discount on the HD packages and still had to pay £60 for installation or £30 if i took out multiroom.. I think I'd be happy to just have HD b0ox and plug in via HDMI cable without the Sky HD package. Its a lot of money to pay extra every month and for set up and if i had a 1TB box i wouldnt need multiroom.

Any Advice would be appreciated, thanks

  • Are you after sky any time or just a bigger hard drive.
Remember sky have only just release a box from them with a 1Tb hard drives the ones on ebay have no doubt have been upgraded, something you can do yourself if your ok with a screw driver

As you already have sky plus you should have two feeds already so no dish or LNB upgrades are required but you will have to pair your old viewing card to the new box (Ring Sky to do this)

Be careful of ebay as some boxes may of had their internal credit maxed out around £30 so as soon as you plug it in to a phone line you may get stung

The HD boxes can connect via scart but would be better on a HDMI connection

if ebay is not for you i could recommend this site
    satcure
Satcure .co .uk (wont let me post correct for some reason
Has lots of information and stuff

I'd like HD so I can connect via HDMI and a bigger hard drive. not so worried about getting HD from SKY yet. Do all boxes have anytime now - I was confused about that part.
I'll look at the site you sent thanks

  • The new sky so called HD boxes are the only box to support any time but what do you think any time is? its nothing like virgins On Demand you have a limited selection of films, Documentaries basically it works by recording items that you yourself could have recorded that week and only keeps them for a week or so

So you can't view a whole series at once just what was recorded that week which you could do on a sky plus box if you did a bit of forward thinking
