Tool/Option to hide threads

Options
There will always be some contentious threads on the forum, but sometimes I don't really want to read them. Currently there a few threads about Ian Huntley and I am not interested in reading them.

Is there a tool that I could us that would hide selected threads? Maybe an option in the Thread Tools that says "Hide thread".

Thanks

    If you use Firefox then.........

    http://www.tycamtech.com/ffvb
    Ignore Features:
With FfvB, you can ignore users, threads, prefix and keywords.
Users: Ignoring a user will strip their posts, threads and even their quotes out of the page as if they never existed! It even works on the newreply.php page where it shows you a streamlined list of posts under the textarea.
Threads: If you wish to place a thread on the ignore list but don't want to ignore the person who started it, right click on the thread and place it on ignore. This will strip the thread out of the thread list.
Keywords: You can place a 'keyword' on ignore and any instance matching that keyword will be removed, including threads, posts and quotess.
Avatars and Sigs: vBulletin comes with options in the UserCP to turn off Avatars and Signatures but this is a universal function, meaning that ALL avatars and signatures will disappear. If you wish to place a select few on ignore but not all, right click on them and put them on your ignore list.
    Highlight Features:
Converse to ignore, you can now place items on your highlight list, making things much easier to find. You can highlight a user, a thread, a prefix or keywords. Highlighting users will highlight their threads, posts and quotes within other user's posts.
Highlighting keywords will highlight the thread or post, but also the actual keyword that it matches within the text. Should a keyword match and become highlighted, the filter will still continue and highlight the thread or post the color of a matched user or thread while still keeping the keyword itself highlighted. This adds an extra level of highlighting!

i use the extension mentioned by fermi.

it's really good. there are a couple of little things that don't seem to work though (for me anyway).

if i "ignore" a user's avatar, i can't seem to unignore it, and i can't get it to "ignore" signitures either.

apart from that it's great - hides threads and stickies (removes them from the board), ignores users (and quotes where someone has quoted them) and all of this even if you're not logged in to mse.

That's a bit worrying...is the only way to resolve that by uninstalling the add-on? Thanks

In the FfVb settings/opions dialog there should be an "avatars" tab that lists ones you have ignored.

There is a remove button to remove ones you want to stop ignoring.

    Does that not work OK?

    hi fermi :hello:

no, it doesn't work for me when i do that. it shows the users avatars i've added to "ignore", but when i click the remove button, it doesn't remove them! i rarely use that feature anyway, so it doesn't bother me. i once "ignored" a user's avatar, i didn't mean to, and the only way i found to get it back, was to use the "emergency reset" function of the extension, to clear all my settings and start again from scratch.

just to be clear, it's only on avatars, that i've ignored.

if i've ignored a user, a can un-ignore them, no problem, just avatars.

(oh and the ignore signature doesn't work which is a shame - i'd love that function!)

Well I just successfully ignored an avatar and then removed the ignore using that button.

    Odd............ confused-smiley-013.gif

    Maybe it's just temperamental?

i just tried it again, to double-check and it definitely doesn't work for me.

i suppose it could clash with some other extension i have running or something?

can you get it to ignore signatures?

Nope. I just get "no signature to ignore".
