Spare dongle on contract - can I transfer it?

Dear all, as the last person in the world able at last to get adsl (or that's how it feels anyway) I now have a spare mobile broadband dongle on contract with 12 months left to run. I'd be happy to freecycle it or give it to a friend but obviously I'd still be liable for the costs until the contract finishes and I can cancel. Is there any way round this, or has anyone any suggestions about what I can do about this to save myself having to pay around £13 a month for something I won't use?
And a big thank you to everyone on here who explained so clearly my options for bb at home when I suddenly got the message that I could at long last get it at my house. I took your advice, went for Plusnet and am now into my second trouble-free month getting around 350-400 kbps download and 300-350 upload. Feels heavenly to me!!
But what to do with the mobile contract?
DS

You can't change the name on the contract, but you can sell it on/give it away, and the DD can be changed into the new owner's name.
However you remain liable for the contract, so if the new owner stops paying or runs over the monthly allowance it's you who's ultimately liable.
So freecycle is a non-starter-it has to be someone you trust 100%.No free lunch, and no free laptop
