    Trust me, I will!!!

As for the comment re having a spare tube and therefore not needing a puncture kit - it means I can fix it on the train! :rotfl:

I'm also considering puncture reduction methods and was thinking of getting some panaracer tyre liners (only the cost of a weeks petrol for two)

Re the High Vis, I live in the back end of nowhere down unlit roads - better safe than sorry surely?

Thanks for the replies though guys, very useful! A test ride is in order in the not too distant to see how long it will take me (and just how unfit I really am!)

You don't need tyre liners, just keep them correctly inflated and use kevlar-lined tyres and you'll be fine. Mostly, its worn-out or under-inflated tyres that puncture easily.

If a motorist can't see a cyclist with bright LED lights, he isn't going to see the same cyclist wearing a hi-viz.

5 miles should take a fit cyclist no longer than 25 minutes.

You've not seen some of the hill I'll have to get up :eek: No way I'll be averaging 10mph up those......

Liners are cheaper than buying new tyres :D

I've got 2 spare tubes, 2 METAL tyre levers (plastic ones are useless), and a good (pricey) pump. (also spare light batteries in winter but don't bother in summer). That's it apart from my work clothes and sarnies, I commute 7 miles a day I don't bother with waterproofs because I'm changing anyway.

Hi vis jackets are available in Poundland, they are better when hooked over a backpack, they flap about more then and are not an extra layer to make you too warm in the summer.
