I'm having problems with WMP.
When I double click on an mp3 file, nothing happens, no media player, nothing, so I right click on the file and select play, still nothing happens, so I right click on the file and go to open with & it shows WMP icons twice (don't know how to delete one of them??). Whichever one I select, neither opens the player, so I go to start, all programs to find WMP and there's no mention of it. So I go to search, type in WMP and it shows the folder, so I open the folder, double click the WMP icon, nothing happens, so I double click the WMP set up and get an error message 'Your computer is running the latest version 10 and no updates are available'.
I have inserted my XP set up disk to check nothings missing etc but that hasn't solved the problem.
I have been on the Microsoft site to download WMP 10 (in case mine has missing files - don't know how tho) and get told that my o/s doesn't support WMP - d'oh - what the hell does that mean??
All my updates are to date.
How the hell do I get the damn thing to open and play my music???
Very frustrated ;(

Have you tried Right Clicking on the file... 'Open With...' and selecting the WMP icon. See if that works.
Alternatively: Troubleshooting Windows Media Player 10
Error Messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/errors.aspx
If all else fails, use WinAmp Basic: http://www.winamp.com/player/
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

Yes I have tried 'open with' (please read original post - I know it's garbled, sorry). Have been on the microsoft link you gave but there is NO solution.
I can use Quicktime or WinAmp to play but I really really want to use my WMP........pleeeeeeezzzzz0 -

I have re-read it several times, I can't see where you right-clicked and selected 'open with...'. I can see where you right-clicked and selected 'play' but these are two different things. I'm telling you to associate the mp3 format with WMP. Not just play the file using WMP.Have been on the microsoft link you gave but there is NO solution.

I would count my blessings you've got something to play your mp3's with, I know I do. I don't like the way WMP feel the need to tell MS that I like to listen to x type of music. Or where I aquire it from, if they want to build a profile of me then they can ask me and pay for the privillege, instead of doing it surrepticiously. Anyway, try here: 'How do I uninstall the player' http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/installation.mspx then install it again if you feel the need.
Alternatively, you could dive into the options of Realplayer & Quicktime and dissasociate mp3 from those players if you haven't done so already.

Hi
Have you tried uninstalling wmp10, this will roll you back to wmp9 and then you could try installing wmp10 again if thats what you want.

Where did you get this mp3 file from, was it downloaded, may only have an mp3 extension. Might be something different altogether..If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.0

I know the message was garbled but it is there, if you look at the end of the second line onwards, sorry about that.0 -

I have tried uninstalling WMP 10 but get an error message which says 'this version of WMP is not compatible with your OS' so can't get rid of it. I've clicked on your link and I can't roll back to WMP 9 as it is no longer available for download???0 -
