Giant increase on travel insurance...help needed !

Options
I am 67 and my OH 68. I have type 2 diabetes and he 'merely' has hypertension. Last year I got an annual travel insurance policy through Diabetes UK which cost us £193.35. We have a house in France and need to be insured as we visit quite often. I have just got the new quote for the same policy (neither of us has claimed, both just as fit as last year, but both a year older) and the same policy would cost us an amazing £399.78 this year. I have spoken to them and they say there is an age increase (but can't tell me what it is) and their rates have gone up by 25% (he said because of the Euro, at which point I realised that he didn't really have a clue).
Does anyone have any other travel insurance which can cope with stuff like diabetes and hypertension but which is a sensible price ?

We were in this situation and got good cover for OH from Flexicover.

We have now upgraded our current account and have the cover through HSBC.

    Good luck!

Try the Briitish Mounainerring council, My husband is 69 and has heart problems I am 63 with no health issues and ours came to £186.72 for 12 months worldwide cover and that includes a membership fee for each of us. Europe will be cheaper. You do not have to declare specific health conditions just answer no to a few questions They do not cover the over 70s but you are not that old yet.

I've seen them recommended on previous threads. NB everyone - you don't have to be a mountaineer for them to insure you :D

No I used to be the bookeeper for a climbing centre in Birmingham thats how I came to know about them. I am scared of heights so I would not even climb the indoor walls.

I took out a Marks and Spencer premium club card as they included free travel insurance. It costs £10 a month for the whole family and I paid an extra £9.41 a year for my husband as he has very high bloodpressure and takes loads of pills. You also get £10 worth of hotdrink vouchers each month so the travel insurance works out almost free for us. They insure you up to age 80. Before that we were with saga insurance but that became too expensive.

Flexicover lets you put in health details and gives an instant online quote.
