Your very close to the Peak District so you could go fopr a walk and admire the fantastic scenery.
In Stoke you have all the pottery museums and also a display of some of the staffordshire hoard
Just outside stoke on trent there are a couple of steam railways.
Theres loads to do around the area!0 -
Monkey forest at Trentham gardens get's excellent reviews too.
If you're being dragged reluctantly to a theme park, it's the best one to be dragged too. The gardens within are stunning, and there are non-ride things to do (such as the excellent sea life center) too. The surrounding area is beautiful, too.Only dead fish go with the flow...0 -

Thanks for the suggestion but for the people I am thinking of, this would be more scary than Alton Towerscreased-leach wrote: »Monkey forest at Trentham gardens get's excellent reviews too.

I'm not being reluctantly dragged (even though I'm not a big fan of all the rides) but I am thinking of coming to AT with people who dislike theme parks and to be fair to them, there would be to much walking involved.
The Monkey Forrest does look great but I personally like the look of that, so a visit there would be separate to a visit to Alton Towers.
The main person that I am looking for is a 50+ year old lady and my partner but possibly other people too If I can find something for them to do.
The Potteries sound interesting, is there one big visitor attraction or are there lots of different little ones?
Walking in the Peak District isn't ideal but are there any nice Towns or Villages to visit, I only know the north of the Peak District (Bakewell, Matlock, Buxton, Castleton etc) all of which would be suitable but would also be to far.0 -

There are several National Trust houses in that area (not sure of distances etc) but may be worth checking their web-site.0

Not any more I don't think - that was only a temporary exhibition that finished on 7th March. Hopefully if they raise the money it'll be back permanently at some point.0 -
Carsington Water's nice, excellent visitors centre. Cheddleton railway museum near Leek. Buxton's worth a visit. Sudbury hall museum of childhood (National Trust), Uttoxeter races if they're on.Out on blue six..
It's Chips and Jackets, Peas and Trousers.0
