Seller Charged for Special Delivery then Sent Recorded

What would you do in this case? I am really hacked off because it is parts for my husband's business which he needed to carry out repairs for a customer tomorrow. Chances are the item won't be received for a few days now.
The seller says he miscalculated the post and that it would have been around £20 for special delivery, but surely it is up to him to make sure his listings are correct - and not just charge for one service and then provide a lesser one?

He is absolutely wrong and should have used SD as promised even though it was costing him more than he had calculated.
Unfortunately nothing you can do to make it arrive any faster, but I think this deserves a neg with a comment to warn others and obviously a very low star. I would do this even if it arrives in time for the repair.0 -
I would email explaining how inconvient and misleading his add was. You are sorry he did not check the weight and costs more carefully but its not your fault. Ask for the different between recorded and speical delivery to be refunded as any honest seller will do. The difference should about £4 i think. Be polite and try and keep the sarcasm out ( i know thats hard dealing with morons). Don't mention feedback as thats grounds for removal if you go on to neg.
Venting wtih a neg at someone cos they made a mistake will not change anything about delivery time now. Weigh up what other people have said about them and see when the part arrives. If it arrives today and you get a refund on the difference it would actually be a bonus in the end. If they won't refund the difference i would certainly consider leaving a negative.0 -

The difference could be a lot more as OP said SD price would have been about 20 pounds it must be over 2kg. 2-4kg 8.22 +75p 1st class recorded = 8.97 and 2 - 10kg SD 21.65. The sender chose RD to save the difference that he had not factored into his postage charge.0 -
Yes, there is a massive jump in price when the item is over 2kgs.0

Well, thankfully, the parts turned up but the seller never responded to the polite message I sent him yesterday saying that I thought he shouldn't have used a lesser service than we had paid for just because he calculated his postage wrongly.
I am seriously thinking about leaving my first ever negative just because of the cheek of the whole thing!0 -
Feedback is there to warn others, so if buyers need to be aware that this seller doesn't abide by their auction terms and then fails to respond to a polite message then maybe buyers do need to be warned.
Incidentally was this item over £39 as if so the seller is certainly a little dim and may need protecting from themselves.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I am glad it turned up promptly.

If they are still buying and selling and leaving feedback then they should have replied but if their account looks quiet give it a couple of days then leave a neg. Give the appropiate stars. If they are selling lots of items and could be regarded as a business make sure they are registered if not report them.0 -

Yes, Soolin, it was something worth nearer to £100, so if it had gone astray he would not have been adequately covered by Royal Mail - I did think this at the time.
I think he is a bit clueless really but he needs to learn how to conduct business properly if he wants to make a go of it otherwise he could get into real trouble.0 -
He should have sent SD, he advertised SD, you paid for SD, it's the sellers responsibility to make sure his postage prices are correct,
Last thing I sold on ebay I advertised as SD, like a fool I guessed at the price of postage and it ended up costing me £9 more to send than I'd actually charged, but since the auction stated it would be sent SD, that's how I sent it. My fault, my loss. Why should the buyer lose out on a mistake I made.Sigless0 -
I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago... A business seller advertised the product with 1st class postage, but sent it 2nd. I emailed, and got quite a rude response back saying because it was cheap, it didn't matter. I emailed him again, got no response, so gave him a negative feedback and 1 star DSRs. Serves him right! The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
