    Thanks for the info Eric.
One big killer for me is PLANNING.
So for example it's my sisters birthday on Friday and everyone else will have a takeaway.
If I PLAN then I will take a low fat sandwich which will be fine.
If I don't plan it then I will be hungry and have no alternative to have a takeaway where there are NO low calorie options available.

Similarly being out on a day trip, or simply being at home with nothing in the cupboard, presents a real problem.

I'm work full time and regulalry go out with mates, family etc. so for me this is an absolute KILLER and the thing more likely to de-rail my diet than anything else.

I ride a motorbike and go out with my mates for rides.
We stop off at greasy cafes and everyone has a bacon butty,.
We eat out a LOTand therefore don't always have food at home in the cupboard.
We are getting better at making batches and having things in the freezer available for a busy evening.

I guess for home based mums then the challenges are different (picking whilst cooking would be a killer for me), but for someone who's working who travels and socialises then it's important to recongnise the risk of not planning.

if your getting take away you can have Indian, plain or pilau rice with any tandori meat (chicken, lamb, mixed grill) has no sauce or fat added to it and is very delicious, kebabs are ok if you have the chicken skewers with the salad, i dont eat Chinese food but they have excellent rice and there's probably a steamed chicken dish that would be ok.

pizza, Donna kebabs, burgers are im afraid death from fat ...

but i agree its extremely hard to find any healthy food anywhere, 99.9% of convince food is stuffed with fat sugar and additives even in garages with mini shops. Mini marks and sparks can be useful as they have skinless chicken and fruit but its not cheap ..

in a cafe try wholemeal toast with jam and no butter is about as good as you can get I think, lean bacon (no fat) grilled / griddled is very healthy

but yes your situation is going to be very difficult

when your going round friends etc would it be possible to keep some "healthy option" type microwave meals in the freezer that you can grab and take with you?

  • ive just re-started the WW diet, im allowed 19 points a day. day 1 today, and i have 8 points left for dinner, which i think will be more enough as i plan to have a quorn spag bol which is very low in points (i need to work out the spaghetti)

so far i have had... ww bagel with low philly (3.5points), ww yogurt (1point) and tuna mayo jacket (6points)
i have a recipe for zero point veg soup, so i can have some of that when i get a bit peckish.

i have around 2stone to lose, im currently 11.2 and 5'4. will add a piccy up later so i can compare my before and after.
  • Hi all!

Lovely new thread, yay! Thanks Sary.
Welcome to all the newbies, good luck on your weightloss journeys. I think I need some of that luck myself, now that I mention it :rotfl:

Eric - thanks for the full lowdown on the "patented" Pisch-meister fat busting plan, and I love the disclaimer!! :rotfl::cool:

I'm off to New York on Thursday for a long weekend...very excited! My step mum has arranged it as a surprise present for my Dad's 60th. I am so disorganised though...tomorrow will mostly be spent running round like a headless chicken as I am not remotely ready :p. Methinks the diet plan could be seriously tested by eating out all weekend, but at least all the walking will be burning calories!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day :)

You will love New York, I went last year for a week and actually lost 4 lbs! All that walking must have done it because I certainly enjoyed the food as well:rotfl::o

Unfortunately my sister doens't have any decent takeaways near her, only the bad ones.
I like the chicken on skewers, but you can't find it everywhere.
when your going round friends etc would it be possible to keep some "healthy option" type microwave meals in the freezer that you can grab and take with you?
    Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes it would work with planning.
I don't very often eat at friends houses and that's less of a problem. It's the going out and takeaways that's the issue.
If you are at a friends house then you can generally request what you want.
If you are out then things sometimes come as you would not expect e.g. salad covered in dressing.
I'm usually pretty good at asking for what I want e.g. no dressing, but you still don't always get what you expect or the amount.
But we'll see how it goes and I'll let you know.

I often find beans on toast to be a good and filling choice, but you still sometimes get about doublewhat you need.

    I know........you don't have to eat it............I KNOW .........I KNOW :-)
  • Hi all,

I hit a bit of a slump over Christmas and recently got back on the keep fit thing! I too am a yo-yo dieter, I lose motivation once I reach my target weight but this time I've decided to try a different route and cut out wheat from my diet. I've been eating rye bread and oatcakes to replace the cravings, and buy wheat-free pasta when I feel like a treat. I've been wheat-free for five weeks now and have noticed that even after I've eaten a lot, my tummy doesn't bloat as much and if it does it goes down very quickly. I still allow myself the odd treat, I bake banana or blueberry muffins using wheat-free flour which are lovely. Taste the same, just the texture is different.

For anyone else who wants to try a different diet, I would recommend going wheat-free for a month. It sounds difficult and I was worried when I first started but once I realised how many substitutes are available it was easy! Was only planning to do this for 4 weeks because I thought I would miss wheat too much, but I'm carrying on with it. Give it a go! Oatcakes and hommous, I think I could live on it! :D

wheat / gluten intolerances are probably the most ignored / undetected, another commonly ignored intolerance is MSG which can cause terrible reactions

you can easily test for these as you have done by excluding one suspected item from your diet for a couple of weeks, im lucky as wheat seams to have no affect on me and MSG well i eat tonnes of Whey product with no problems :D
