hi Im looking to change internet provider from Sky due to a barney I had with them over their usage. I was on the Sky Mid package at £10 a month with a 10GB limit . Basically im looking for recommendations have seen a BE Value package for £7.50 with a 40Gb limit . Has anyone got this package but really looking for advice on which provider to take up

Be Value is only available at around 1250 exchanges that Be/o2 have their LLU kit at.

For a basic upto 8Mbps package WITH that 40GB/m limit from 1/7 you wouldn't regret it especially with the £40 £back you can currently blag at eg Quidco/TopCashBack.

However if that limit is concerning to you in anyway then the o2 branded o2 Standard alternative would be a better choice (and maybe o2 Premium with upto 24Mbps down (if you have a short/good line)) - and may well be cheaper anyway (that's IF you are prepared to get/use an o2 mobile PAYG SIM)

With an o2 mobile (it's the cross selling game they ARE in!) : at the moment with £50 £backs and an o2 £50 incentive, you could actually be saving £10 over the first year by USING o2 Standard as you'd have up to £94+ of o2 mobile credit as a result of subscribing to their home broadband - ie they effectively pay YOU, rather than you THEM).

See my Be & o2 analyses at

Thanks for your reply. Just one thing you save the 40gb limit comes in on the 1/7 but what is the limitnow. i can get be broadband at my exchange, tested the line at my house and it gives a maximum of 5.5mbps is that the maximum that the isp can download at because I went on there websites and it says I can get uptp 14Mbps

Since early 2010 all new Be Value contracts have unlimited usage UNTIL 1/7 from when 40GB is the published monthly limit. Be's services are all ADSL2+ based and hence CAN deliver upto 24Mbps modem synch of the circuit IF your line is short/good enough. However the Be Value has a modem synch limit of 8Mbps. The estimates are based on the BT database of landlines and is ONLY an estimate. That said if you have a broadband modem synch'd on your line right now you can use ITS stats as a very reliable predictor. If you look at my docs (link above) there is in there a link to (a) how to get your modem stats (b) where to put them to get an ADSL2+ estimate.

If the 14Mbps is a realistic estimate then Be Unlimited & o2 Premium (with very different net-costs see my analyses!) could be useful to you.

I have been on o2 Standard for nearly 2.5yrs and over that period nearly always get 84% of modem synch as usable data bandwidth (on my 4Mbps modem synch line).

If you want more than 40GB, then O2 Standard is the obvious choice at £7.50 with the mobile discount (and Quidco of course).
