Looking for a water butt & composter

As per title really, i'm having a new greenhouse delivered in a few weeks, i have also ordered a down pipe......all i need now is a water butt

I would also like a composter, although this isn't essential.

Where's the best place to get these from, they need to be reasonably cheap, as the greenhouse has left me pretty broke.

If you think you will need to store rainwater consider one of these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Industrial/Containers-bins-trolleys/auction-274040137.htm

I'm sure you've seen them all over the place, a 2nd hand one should cost about the same as a new 200l water butt but will give you 1000l storage, there most commonly called a cube.
For composting try your council, most still sell bins at around a tenner.

You could make a compost bin from old pallets if you are reasonably handy.
If you look on ebay there are recycled drums which can be used as water butts; they are cheap but you really need to be able to collect them as the carriage costs are high.

Be careful with the council deals - we had our council update thing yesterday with a new compost bin and water butt offer. The compost bins looked pretty reasonable but they wanted £32 for the same water butt Wilkos are selling for £15! Argos had a reasonable small one for £25 in previous years.

I got a tumbler composter a couple of weeks ago from freecycle, so it's worth keeping your eye out for the occasional advert on that.
Our local council has composters for £13.50 but then wants £5 p&p charge on top, so prices don't seem to be as good through them as they used to be.

Our council is roughly the same price for the composter with the same p&p, i couldn't find the water butts though. I've signed up to freecycle, but i have to wait for the organiser to accept my application!!!!

I was in the local poundstretcher this morning and they had the old style black bins with lids for £7.99, i might just get a couple of those, for a water butt all i would have to do them is get a tap kit.

If i used a black bin as a composter would i have to drill air vents into it?
