Christian name is at least a little bit daft nowadays for common-sense reasons, as some people have already said.

But you know what's worse? Second name. Will someone explain how this phrase appearing to demonstrate mass mathematical illiteracy could possibly make sense?
  • Totally agree.

I was once spoken to by police when I witnessed a nasty incident involving two men having a domestic in public. They were lovers AND it was practically outside the doors of a church.

Anyway the police asked me for my details. Cue the first mistake...."what is your christian name?" I nearly walked away but for the sake of being a good citizen I answered but not before I gave her a piece of my mind. Firstly we live in the west (democratically elected) seperated by the church. Therefore I demand to be treated like a citizen and NOT a label or an object of traditionl. I told her that being from an enlightened era, I am not a christian or for that matter any denomination.

Second mistake....."what is your second name?" This was not abusive like the first question but a daft mistake often made by idiots who blindly follow american talking patterns. I answered "I do not have a second name, unless of course you want to call me by another name in....private" and winked. Teh officer now took offence and told me that she was gay. Now I felt awkward.

I have a Christian Name, what is this rubbish! If you do not like the fact it is my name and it is my Christian name, then you have a problem, not me.

Besides, what is wrong with Freddie

Do you have any idea where you are or what you're doing?
  • I am sensitive to a ban of anything. You seem very easily offended IMHO.
So why does believing in god make you sensitive to it?

Would you like it if I asked for your Wiccan name?
Because that's the same, just without the gloss of tradition.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p
  • On a lighter note, I once employed a lovely young man who was a foreign student who spoke excellent English.

When filling out the application form he put his first name down and his second as he would fill it in at home.

When we contacted his University for references they had no record of him at all. Apparently it was customary in his homeland to use the family name first so he had put them the wrong way around on his application form. We'd spent two weeks calling Rav. A shortened version of his surname.

What's clear us, isn't always clear to others...

My fiancee graduated as a teacher a few years ago. She had to produce her birth certificate - whcih meant getting a copy from national records. She found that not only was her forename wrong but so was her date of birth!

She attempted to get national records amended but failed; instead, she adopted the forename and date of birth showing on the national records! I joke that she is like the queeen - having two birthdays each year - an 'officical' one and a 'real' one. By coincidence, it is her 'official' birthday today

No idea what a Wiccan name is so that is a bit of an odd thing to say.

Things should not be banned for spurious reasons.

My Sister once had a Union Jack towel hanging on her washing line and was ' asked ' to remove it as it was insulting certain people!!!!
    seriously?

I'd have been mad they were looking at my washing. But good grief...
personally I use 'forename' and 'surname'
