Multi-vehicle policies - do these save money?

Thanks for all the replies, seems like it's not a given, so we'll just work at keeping the individual policies as low as possible. DH's just told me MCE now insure cars as well as bikes, so maybe we'll run through the details of our stable with them.
DH has a 300C for work, which was £450 with Tesco,
I've got a Megane insured with Sheila's Wheels for £300,
my mini is with Adrian Flux for £260, and
DH's Victory is £300 with MCE.
Total to insure all 4 vehicles this year - £1,310.
Car tax £500/year
Allowing £1,000 per year for tyres and maintenance etc.
Spending £400/month on fuel although now it seems it'll go higher from April.
According to our SOA we spend £650 per month on our vehicles, (not including depreciation)
DH drives 500 miles per week commuting, car is diesel so can't convert to LPG. He acheives about 35mpg so not great, but not bad for that car. He gets car allowance, so the costs are kind of covered although not the most economically.
Considering selling my Megane, but we bought it because I'm not comfortable driving our 2 year old around in the mini every day. It's not my driving, it's if another car misses a red light or something and and drives into us. Don't fancy our chances in a mini.
This whole debate has arisen because we're buying a house and will be wanting to overpay on the mortgage as much as possible.
Sorry to ramble, it's a never ending debate in our house at the moment :undecided0 -
Generally the more cars you have the better the savings. And it helps if you are mature professionals rather than having undesirable occupations.
We insure 8 cars through a Family Fleet Scheme through Towergate Insurance. The end Insurer is Equity Red Star. The biggest benefit is that 4 of us are insured to drive all 8 cars - so no messing about with calls to make sure you are covered etc.
We pay about £2,200 to insure the following, Merc E55, Merc A200, Mazda5, Zafira, Corsa, 2 MINIs, Mazda3.
The funny thing is that the premium has never really risen in the 15+ years we've had the Policy. When we first started the Policy I was paying at one stage over £1,200 alone for a Golf GTi.The man without a signature.0 -
Thanks Viking, wow that's some fleet!
Out of interest, have you shopped around at renewal time?0 -

The broker shops around for us and says that the scheme we currently use is the cheapest. This year was the first year in 15 years that the premium increased by about £50.
We think the price is good because my mum and dad have the high performance cars E55 & A200 and both MINIs are based in high risk Manchester and London. The man without a signature.0
