Multi-vehicle policies - do these save money?

Has anyone had a multi-vehicle policy and did it save them money compared to insuring each vehicle separately?

I've just done a SOA and our motoring costs really need to come down, we've got 3 cars and a motorbike

Just want to get some feedback before I commit a whole day to dealing with insurance companies...

thanks in advance x

  • Ours did for 2 years then it nearly doubled (Admiral).
So we thought we'd dump them.
I'm with Elephant now and the wifes with Diamond on a similar price to what we had (wife went from a 1.4 TDCI Fiesta to a 2.5 CRD Grand Voyager which would have made a difference anyway).
Both owned by Admiral I believe.

Saves me money on the cars, although my bike is insured independently.

Admiral insure my Impreza, Grand Voyager & Ford Focus for circa 550, and that includes a driver in their first year being named as main driver on the focus.

Prices. We were around £450 for an old range rover and the fiesta originally. Second year was mondeo and fiesta then changed to the voyager. That was much the same. Year 3 was £780 ish for the pair.
Individually, mondeo was £240 and Voyager £309 (full business use).
I just got £30 cashback from Swintons on the bike insurance (via their own site). TPFT £39 for a year.
Never had a policy that does cars and bikes yet.

I had a multi vehicle policy some years ago that combined classic and modern vehicles. It made a huge saving.

We have an Admiral policy for myself and my mother. The way their multicar works is you just get 10% off each policy. My mother's is actually £50 more expensive than the cheapest, but this is dwarfed by the 10% saving on my policy as a young driver.
  • I'm not sure I like the sound of multi car policies. What if one person has a claim? Presumably all drivers on the policy will be affected when it comes to renewal time as they will have to say claims have been made against a previous policy. Or does it work differently?

Don't think it works like that. To all intents and purposes they work as 2 separate policies, except you pay for them both at the same time (but don't actually have to). Both me and my mother earn our own separate NCBs which do not affect each other.
  • It would only affect it if the claiming driver is named on the other policy, or was named on it at the time of the claim (i.e the claim was made through that policy).

We are having poblems with our Previous multi car policy with admiral. We renewed with different companies this year but DH has just recieved a demand of £240 extra on top of what he has already paid. The current company are saying he made a claim through Admiral, which he hasn't. This was our son who had a claim against him but DH was a named driver, our son was not a named driver on DH's policy. We are having a right job trying to sort it out, DH has 9 years no claims. Does this mean that he will be liable for the extra cost because of our son?
Also trying to get our NCB from Admiral is like getting blood from a stone!! We have had nothing but problems with Admiral. They are a nighmare to deal with!!!!
