I have been recommended Towergate Insurance. http://www.towergate.co.uk/
They offer professional liability & indemnity.

They have a website but I have never heard of them. They say that they are underwritten from Sun Alliance.

How to I check them out before I hand over the money.

I am looking to insure myself as a Life Coach & a Nurtiritionist. I am currently to study Nutrition & Weightloss + life coaching.

Before parting with any money they should give you a copy of the policy. It looks like they are just brokers so your real relationship will be with whoever is named on the actual contract, so as long as the actual policy is legit you shouldn't have too much to worry about (in theory they could take the money and run but from the info found on Google they look fairly large).

Towergate are brokers who are used by the Federation of Small Businesses so should be ok.

As a life coach you should be looking at professional indemnity insurance and public liability.

I have found Hiscox to be about the best for insurance to be truthful.

    Big thanks for the recommendation.
I have just spoken to them and they are very very professional. I got a quote but they do cost quite a lot more than the other company. Why do you go with them compared to another company that would be cheaper. This info will help me decide if I should seriously go with them. What is your experience with them?

What are they good and bad points... Thanks

As mentioned before ask for the actual policy documents or a detailed list of what is covered, the amounts, the limitations and the excess.

I can't comment on your business but make sure they cover what is relevant for you, as an example in the catering trade you require cover for your freezer contents if there is a power cut, a one size fits all policy generally won't work. Other people in your trade should be able to tell you what to look out for, or just ask the brokers why they are more expensive and ask them to justify it.

I havent't used Towergate for anything..I can remember when they quoted me to cover my car for business at £700 when the post office just added a business element and it cost me £300.

I use Hiscox because it is the best insurance for me as their policies suit my business..I pay £21.08 each month to Hiscox which covers both the professional indemnity and public liability insurances. I had previously used More Than for my professional indemnity insurance but they were rubbish but I have always had public liability with Hiscox.

I am also a member of the FSB so get to use their legal helpline for free and have some automatic insurance with them too.

I joined the FSB in January and was given details of Towergate, so I called them on the off chance that I could get decent priced insurance for my 18 year old. Other quotes he had been given were just short of £2000 for FPFT but Towergate quoted £1850 for fully comprehensive.

DH is just setting up a business doing IT support and got a quote with them but they were dearer than Natwest, so worth looking around at other firms too.

Towergate are a very very very large broker who have been buying smaller brokers with schemes for a few years, they are financed by a few of the banks including RBS.

I sell insurance and Towergate can be very good or bad depending on the quality of the broker they bought out.

They are not bad but Hiscox are arguably the best Insurer in the country and reguarly top surveys for best Insurer for cover / claims and customer service

We were with Towergate for a few years but when we renewed this year the quote was very expensive. We had moved address and they didn't look at our new needs and just requoted. We had other people quote and all visited and discussed our changing requirements. The quotes were completely different. None of the companies charged us for the visits and they were very useful meetings. Our business doesn't fit a standard policy so was custom made, unlke the standard policy we were offered with Towergate and AXA.
  • When I contacted Hiscox last week they do not cover therapists in any way.
