Virgin disconnection fee?

Hi
I have 2 weeks left of my 1 month notice to cancel my contract at the end of it's term, I've read the terms and it says there is £23.50 to pay if I'm not transferring to a new provider, but, I will be transferring to Plusnet. What I want to know is from other peoples' experience do you end up getting charged anyway if you switch at the end of your contract?...and how far in advance should I contact Plusnet to take a deal with them (Virgin deal ends on April 8)
Thanks

Are you on Virgin Media (cable service) or Virgin National (ADSL service)? If the latter, then as long as you use a MAC to migrate then no cease charge is payable.
Sounds like you've done this the wrong way around, you should get your MAC first from VM, give that to Plusnet when you sign up, then there is no charge, and no break in service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I'm with cable, they have said I don't need a MAC code?0

Correct, no MAC needed if on cable.
But how are you switching to Plusnet unless you already have a working BT line installed?
It will take maybe 3 weeks to get a line in, then about 10 days to get the broadband on it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
really?..so I will end up paying it anyway?!...I was under the impression that if I pay the £50 connection fee (worth doing by the looks if it's through a cashback site) that it would go through straight away...at this rate I suppose it will be yet another year of staying with Virgin whilst not being offered any incentive to stay (as from what you are saying they have me over the proverbial barrel anyway)0

You can only have cable broadband on a cable proper phone line.;)
If you want plusnet broadband your need a new BT or Plusnet line connected, and you might have a problem migrating your existing phone number.0 -
If there is no BT line physically present, then how can it go through straight away? The property has to be connected up.
If it's just a matter of reconnecting an existing line, then the process should be quicker.
As you say, without a BT line VM is your only option. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

In fact to be absolutely correct you cannot have any broadband on a cable phoneline. Virgin cable broadband is delivered along the cable used by the TV, the phone uses a separate one.0
