sticky handles on buggy

Hi
We have a Maclaren buggy that has been given to us for when our grandaughter visits. She's walking now so doesn't use a buggy much but we're going on holiday in the summer and want to take the buggy. The rubber handles on the buggy are sticky and I don't know what to do to get rid of it or if I can buy replacement handles.
Any ideas anyone?

Sticky handles are a problem with Maclaren. I guess you could buy tennis racquet tape. It probably is just the rubber breaking down. My older Maclaren had the same problem. It wasn't due to people touching the handles with sticky hands, as most of the time it was just me pushing it, lol.0

Talcum powder may help in the short term. I'd contact McLaren and explain the situation. Sounds like a design fault to me.0

There is another thread on this somewhere (though I can never find them when I look!) but there were lot's of suggestions. I think it is probably because the rubber has degraded and so would need to be covered with something like pp suggested, tennis racquet tape or similar.0

I agree with this.
How old is it? sounds like its happening on alot of their buggies so you may be able to get replacement handles on any extended warranty they're offering. Im sure if its that common they will need to take some action to keep customers happy.
Here we go, found this on another site:
My maclaren's handle grips have gotten really sticky and gross, and I can't clean them. I scrub but the goo remains, as if the grips are melting. Is this a design defect, or is my stroller defective?- I heard Maclaren is really good about doing replacements; check their website. Maybe a dealer near you will do a trade-in?
from Their website on Warranty (so check where you got it from, proof of purchase and read the leaflet that came with it:
Basic Warranty
All Maclaren Buggys
What it covers
The Basic Warranty covers any manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, for buggies used in normal conditions and in compliance with operating instructions, during the 12 months following purchase.
How to activate
Coverage is automatic; you do not need to activate the Basic Warranty, however proof of purchase is required for servicing under warranty.
What it does not cover
- Damage caused by normal wear and tear, accident or negligence. Examples include wheels and fabric worn down by regular use and the natural breakdown of colours and materials over extended time and use. Please refer to the product's instruction leaflet, for guidance on how to maintain your buggy.
- Buggies purchased from an unauthorised Retailer
- Repairs carried out by an unauthorised third party. Should a repair be needed please refer to our Authorised Service Centres/Service Agents listing at https://www.maclarenbaby.com
Maclaren reserves the right to determine if warranty terms and conditions have been met.
And if you're not covered by that then lots of people are saying to wrap clingfilm around the handles as that works :AMFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 - I heard Maclaren is really good about doing replacements; check their website. Thanks guys, glad to know it's not something I've done!
We cant contact Maclaren under the warranty as the buggy was given to us and we don't have proof of purchase so it looks as if we'll be buying some tennis racquet tape!
I just didn't fancy pushing it in the spanish heat with sticky handles0 -

First try the clingfilm, LOADS cheaper and easy to replace wherever you are in the world.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
They do sell replacement foam for the handles on ebay but i think they are quite pricey, think you would be able to pick up a cheap stroller for the same price.0

I got dashboard shine on my steering wheel which made it sticky. a vet wrap bandage sorted it out and was more comfortable than before. I'm guessing the same would be true of a buggy handle0

How about using the clear parcel tape instead. Got to be miles cheaper!0
