This is exactly what happens to me. I just made an account to ask you..
Did you ever find the solution?

    - Thanks

    Edit: Or anyone else?

sounds like a ECU fault or ECU loose connection fault.

all dealer customer services are trained to tell everyone dont not believe what you read on the internet. but if its been featured on BBC's watchdog in the media etc it hards for them to disprove it.

reading here someone having the steering lock engage is new on me as their mechanical locks, not electronic, theres no way for the lock to engage with the key past the first key turn stage, renault on the other hand have electronic steering locks fitted allong with keycard start its part of the immobiliser system (a non coded part though) low battery or battery failure can cause the lock to engage when the engine starts to die this happens very rarely and renault updated it ecu software to correct it.

Had this same problem with my 206, everything electrical switched off, I found that if you quickly turned the ignition key to the off position and then on again it would re-engage all electrics and engine. You do not need to dip the clutch. It is frightening the first time it happens. Luckily mine was still in its warranty, they fitted a coil pack and a CPU download and all is well now.

OH had a ’52’ plate one before we had the kids, had the problem luckily whilst still in warranty!

We sold it to someone oop north after 2 years and about 90,000 miles as it wasn’t practical with a young child, so I don’t know what happened in the end to it.

Ours was the 1.4, if that helps!

  • My Y reg 206 1.1 has started doing this today, scared the bajeebus out of me as i had my partner, sister and 3 year older daughter in the car, i came to a junction, slowed down, gear change from 4th to 1st, all of a sudden the engine just stopped, no juddering or anything just cut out, all my electrics remained on, so i turend the key and it started 1st time, got around 100m down the road to some temp traffic lights, gear change from 3rd to 1st, whack it did it again! its scarey is am broke and realy dont waana spend kmuch getting an 11 year old car fixed, it now leaves me in a very hard possition to be in =(.
  • what I am reading about the Peugeot 206 CC is scaring me. My daughter loved this car.... her engine cut out today for the first time with shudders.. and restarted ... but the Air bag warning came on too.. after searches I am on this thread. The AA came, found that a earth lead to engine was damaged, replaced... but I am not convinced having read all the different threads on this story that this is necessarily the end of it. I am petrified at the thought of her driving this... and because we have no money (I was made redundant a couple of months after she bought the car... and she absolutely need to drive to get to her work... and since she has also had her time reduced to only 4 days a week).. for us it is a disaster ... and I cannot persuade her not to drive the car because she cannot get to work without it.. I am so anxious. What I cannot bear is that every time I approach a garage, I fear I cannot trust... in my experience it is practically impossible to find a garage that is not going to take the chance to rip you off. We live in East Sussex, she works in West Sussex and I know that there is a Peugeot garage / dealer in Burgess Hill, Becks... never been there, don't know if they can be trusted and competent.. just don't know.

I don't suppose you could drop a link in here as to the info you've found? I have mk4 golf which does something very similar - no one's managed to find out what's causing it as yet. Oh, and I just normally drop the clutch and re start the engine while moving ;)

/edit: googling it right now - could be interesting.
throttle body needs a clean this is on all vws that every one I service I squrt a load of carb cleaner at the trottle
  • We had a ford focus about 5 years ago and the engine kept dying. After few minutes it would start up ok.
We took it back to big main ford dealer who supplied it to us. They let a machanic check it out but he couldn't find anything wrong.

Next time it happened we had to get RAC out because it just wouldn't start again.

Problem.......battery lead wasn't properly plugged in which wasn't obviously apparant until you fiddled with the lead.

Not saying that this is the case for everyone but we felt proper idiots:o. Everything was fine after that:).

Wow, must be at pretty low speed tho'?

I didn't think the steering lock could engage with the ignition in the on position??

Anyone else add to this? :(
it should only engage with the key out to avid accidents.
But who know what the french do with their crazy electrics. I'm guessing its electric power steering, its geared low to make turning the wheels easy for the motor problem is it makes it even harder to turn the wheel by hand ie high
  • Has anyone with this problem ever had a drained battery? I left my cd player on over night once and the battery had completely gone. After bump starting the car and recharging it cut out a few times that day, after a good run for an hour it was fine. This was about a month or so ago and I thought it was just that the battery wasn't charged up enough, and everything was fine. Until it happened approaching a round about this morning. Am I going to have to fork out a lot of money?
  • I've had this problem intermittently for months. First happened in traffic on the A14, when I was in the outside lane, and the bloody thing wouldn't restart. Finally kicked in after 10 or so cars had had to undertake me!
I get it when I'm going under 15mph, and it just dies.
Usually when stopping for lights/traffic. It rarely starts first time after, and occasionally have to wait 10-15 mins for it to restart. As soon as it has restarted, I get home by revving up to about 5/6000 revs, and as they die down using the brake and clutch, then revving again, or putting it in to neutral and left foot braking whilst i rev with my right.

It is by far the worst issue I've had with a car - just can't trust the car! If anybody has any new info on this please share

doesnt sound like like what the original posters have had.

this to me sounds like a temp sensor, throttle position sensor or idle control valve if manual cable throttle, or the fly by wire pedal sensor or throtthle body VDO unit, crank sensor or commonly know as a knock sensor, or coil pack or map sensor, you need to get it to a garage for a fault code read.
