Natwest credit checked me for a cash ISA but I complained and they deleted the search.

Savings accounts are checked mainly to make sure that you are not bankrupt and to keep the government money laundering mandarins happy.

I have quite a few savings accounts - pretty sure it's only the co-op gang who do credit checks (most of them do electronic ID checks though).

Joy - do you really need an emergency card - you can transfer the odd hundred quid or so via faster payments from savings accounts to your bank account (normally arrives in an hour or two). Would have recommended YBS myself, but moved savings to Barnsley BS a few months ago as they paid better rates (they are part of YBS - no ATM card on the account I have though).
