DVD Shrink - THE best programme and Free!! DVD Decrypter is also another good Free one - use them with Nero.

Another excellent programme though paid for is Anydvd by Slysoft.

There are some good guides on https://www.afterdawn.com

    www.doom9.org is another useful site.

EDIT: Just found this http://dvd95copy.com/purchase.htm (scroll to the bottom). A free DVD ripper. I haven't used it but it looks interesting.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Your method looks OK to me. :)
I suppose that Handbrake isn't really meant to be used as a 'ripper'.
On their website it says that Handbrake is a 'video transcoder'.

Why thank you! Been backing up my dvd's for a long while now and whilst I wouldn't claim to know the best method ie paid apps, I certainly think I've found a good way of getting an almost flawless (to the naked eye) back-up of a film for free.

  • What I do is use DVDFab Decrypter to rip the entire movie to my HDD. I then use DVDShrink to strip out all the extra's and just give me an .iso of the movie. I then use handbrake to covert it to mp4 and there you go!

If you do need to rip .iso files to dvd though, imgburn is great.

Obvious caveat, you must own all dvd's as piracy is wrong! I just wanted access to all my films on my PS3 as I'm lazy!

Just started to use DVDFab Decrypter as I am finding DVDShrink doesn't "analyse" all my movies. Can I ask a couple of questions ... ?

Does DVDFab Decrypter alsways give you an .ISO file ? What is an .ISO file ? Why do you need to convert that to an mp4 format ? is it easy to burn an .ISO file to a DVD are are there complications and if so what are they and how would you address then ... ?

Many thanks (sorry if some of he questions sound a bit daft ;0) )

An ISO is a disc image, from which you can burn directly to a CD/DVD/BD from your chosen burning software.
