Storage of credit card details and changing to auto-renewal

The arrogance of infamous web-sharks 123-reg continues, but before I go postal over £6, I just want to check something:
When I first bought the domain on 123-reg, there was not auto-renewal.
As you approach expiry time, you get bombarded with emails with subjects like "Don't lose your domain name" etc.
In the email, it says:
But further down, it says:
It didn't used to say this, but I wasn't notified of this change.
When I asked for them to remove my stored detilas, they said:
"6.8 Where the Client authorises payment of any of the Fees by credit and or debit card then 123-reg may deduct other amounts becoming payable to it under the Agreement from that credit or debit card without obtaining additional authorisation from the Client. For the avoidance of all doubt the Client must have an active credit or debit card stored on 123-reg's systems for the duration of the Agreement."
Well, there's only the card option anyway. Have I got a leg to stand on here? Is it really legal to keep my card details, provide no means to remove them, then when I ask for my card details to be remove, to then refer me to terms saying "the Client must have an active credit or debit card stored on 123-reg's systems for the duration of the Agreement"?

According to our system, the following domains will expire in 45 days [etc]
To renew or cancel any of these domains, please login to your 123-reg members control panel at the following web address:
But further down, it says:

If you want to cancel, login and cancel. (or just leave it)
If you want to renew, login and renew.
"We`ll automatically renew your domain name for the same length of time as previously paid" is if you choose to renew.
Unless your emails are different from mine.0
