I won't go into details but I'm currently in a long drawn out "battle" with Virgin Media over their unreliable Catch Up TV on Demand service and what they claim to be BBC iPlayer via the TV (NOT Internet)

Can you check to see if a particular EPISODE of "Doctors" is on your Catch Up TV on Demand list of programmes please.

The one in question is last Friday's - 19th March

Simplest way to check what I'd like to know is...

Go into On Demand using blue button on the remote ..
.. then DOWN to 2 - Catch Up TV - and press OK/Select ...
.. then DOWN to 3 - ALL A-Z - and press OK/Select ...
.. Click > (Right) 3 times to highlight "D" ..
.. then press the RED button several times to Page Down until you find Doctors ..

The 1st you MIGHT find (it will almost certainly vanish in the next 2-3 hours since it will be 7 days old) is 15/03

There will be 2 entries Doctors and HD Doctors

Continue down and see the same (BOTH versions) for 16/03, 17/03 & 18/03

What about 19/03 ?

Or for that matter any of the other dates if they are not as I described ?

If you do check for me and reply with a post , can you state WHERE you live to see if it is a geographical thing - only Virgin Media are CLUELESS IDIOTS !

Anyone else had MISSING programmes or episodes that SHOULD have been on Catch Up but weren't ?

Thanks in anticipation for your help.

Cheers Q

  • I've got Doctors from the 15th through to the 19th. Mostly 2 versions ie HD & normal. However for the 15th & 19th I only have the HD version which I can't access as I don't have HD set up. I'm in NI.
(PS Home & Away is better!:))
(PPS easier to go to "E" & press "green button" for page up as Doctors is nearer the end of the "D" section)

I'm in Scotland, have just had a look & only have the HD version listed for the 19th

however, I've just been sent a new viewing card & need to 'install' that, if there's any change after I do that, I'll post again

EDIT ... sorry didn't notice you were wondering about the other dates too, I have both versions for every date other than 15th & 19th

    Thanks for that.

Just checked again myself and the normal version for 15/03 has now gone (well, 7 days have now passed and today's episode 22/03 has been broadcast) but the 15/03 HD Doctors does remain.

The MISSING 19/03 "normal" is the issue - AND NOT for the 1st time - AND NOT just Doctors.

    Thanks for the help.

and yes I also usually go to E and then GREEN up for the "bottom" listed D section :)

Nice to know the same problem exists "so far afield"

RIGHT, back to the WAR ZONE of VM's MUPPETS & MORONS, the worst customer service there has EVER been.

It could well be a BBC problem as they supply the content to VM, best to go to one of the specialist cable forums to check and ask the question, either Cable Forum or Digital Spy both have plenty of helpful members and VM staff posting on them.

Thanks for the advice, and I will be posting there re other VM iPlayer issues, but this is just VM not doing their job right.

The episode is on BBC iPlayer - ON THE Internet - but has NOT been downloaded on to the VM servers

  • What if you don't use the On Demand using blue button --> Catch Up TV route.

If you press the RED button while viewing a BBC live channel, then you get a menu and one of the menu items is iplayer.

I have the feeling that the content available through the RED button route is different as compared to the "On Demand using blue button --> Catch Up TV" route.

I do not have virgin tv myself, but played with a v-box at a friend's place and it seemed that the iPlayer content was a bit different.

Apparently there is a mention on a "BBC TV iPlayer faults helpline on 08700 101 338" on Virgin Media's website:

    http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/bbc-iplayer.php

And, one can browse through the presently available on demand content here:
    http://www.virginmedia.com/tvradio/ondemand/
(I believe everyone knows this one, but good to mention).

NI (where I am) as well as Scotland,Wales are part of the old NTL network,we came under 'Bromley' as NTL had 2 regions,Bromley & Langley. We are, were, called the Celtic franchise,
VM are not useing NTL systems & processes but are useing TeleWorst instaed which is why your programmes may be 'off'

    Thanks for that info_maniac

It had already been suggested (by the VM "2nd line I still haven't got a clue what you are talking about support team") that instead of doing the CatchUp route I try the Red button BBC iPlayer method.

I think when this service was 1st launched 18-24 months ago they WERE DIFFERENT but sometime since then the became EXACTLY THE SAME.
It is just presented in a different format with additional options like "Series Catch-up"
If you go there you might get a bit more info on the series number & episode listing (and they are all together) but you can still find them all if you go to the Catch-Up TV on Demand and do an AtoZ listing for instance.

Sadly MOST VM staff (Vacuous Morons) STILL think that they are 2 very different services and have different content (and will argue the point despite all the evidence to the contrary) and have yet to show me a single thing that's on one and not the other.

If anyone knows otherwise please show me the difference in programme content between the two.

I know that BBC iPlayer on the Internet IS different, some of which I'm in contention with VM about, believing that it should be on the TV version of the service. I'm trying to get a response from the BBC about some of the regional versions (that are missing) of 2 specific programmes that ARE on the catch-up listings.

With regards to my "missing" episode IT ALWAYS WAS on the Internet iPlayer and I have at last got VM to admit it is a "fault". Indeed, that it is missing because "IT IS THEIR FAULT !"

Actually at the time of this posting the episode in question has indeed been found, loaded up and watched - appeared around TUESDAY teatime.
However, I did get a call from VM at 9:30 PM on WEDNESDAY, telling me that engineers were still working on the fault, that it was a problem in my area and that they hoped to get it sorted quite soon. :rotfl: IDIOTS !

I have been to VM website a few times but had not found the
http://www.virginmedia.com/tvradio/ondemand/ content details, which I'm sure will definitely give me a bit more ammunition to fire at VM the next time we cross paths.

    Thanks again :)
