PLEASE HELP......I can't do this anymore

I don't even know what to write on here, I'm in such a mess. I have ended up off work with depression and I am feeling worse by the day. I have so much debt, I know my only opton is bankruptcy but I am so scared.

I am a single mum with 3 children, I have so many questions, I don't know what to ask 1st. I havent paid anything for 10 months, am I going to get in trouble for this? I have also just been told I have been overpaid my Housing Benefit for 7 months and now I owe them £1400.

All my debt has been on clothes, things for the kids, food shopping, car and just general day to day things. I was living beyond my means and i'm so ashamed.

I just want to curl up and go to sleep and never wake up........please someone tell me what to do to get out of this mess. I'm just so so scared of it all.

I'm sorry if I sound like a dramatic idiot but its just too much for me to cope with now, I feel so alone in this and I can't tell my family as they will be disgusted in me.

  • To start take a deep breath, stop beating yourself up, whats done is done, you can not undo the mistakes, but you are takeing the first step to getting them under control.

First things first, to help us to help you, the best place to start is with an income and expenditure form, we can then help from there once we know your exact situation

Hello and Welcome 1inamillyon, I love your name! first thing Make a list of all your creditors, debts, assets.
Secondly and most important is contact one of the following debt charities:-

Consumer Credit Counselling Service - Website: CCCS Telephone: 0800 138 1111
National Debtline - Website: National Debtline Telephone: 0808 808 4000
Citizens Advice Bureau - Website: Citizens Advice or visit your local CAB centre (find nearest)

As people have already said, you are doing something about it now!
If I was you I would ring CAB today, with them you see someone
face to face and they do help fill in forms.

Please don't feel bad, we've all done silly things in the past. Don't be scared we are all here to help.

Is your doctor nice, can you speak to them freely?

    Take care

  • Please dont be sad, someone on here will have advice for you, my first thought is that you need to contact someone urgently, citizens advice, CCCS, you need to unload these thoughts to someone who can help, dont feel ashamed, we have all been where you are now and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Firstly, Welcome and well done for posting. You are most certainly not alone!
Your first thing to do is sit down and write out roughly how much you owe and what you spend on bills. There is a great template at https://www.makesenseofcards.com
Once you have done this you need to ring National Debtline, CCCS or CAB for some proper professional advice. (National Debtline are fantastic)
Then please come back here and ask as many questions as you want. You have taken the first step towards a debt and stress free future for you and your kids.
    big hugs
    fred x

You lot are way to fast for me!
  • contact the consumer credit council, they are great and wont charge you for there services and will advise you on what direction is best for you. If bankruptcy is the best option for you, dont worry. It happened to me 2 years ago and I felt exactly the same as you, but the sense of relief once it had happened was unbelieveable. Please dont get me wrong its not the easy option, but it allows you to take back some control. There is stigma attached but to be honest no one needs to know. Dont worry, you just have to get the ball rolling. Good luck

Please don't worry, I will just echo what others have said before, seek some advice from one of the debt charities who are all so non judgemental. (I found CAB and National Debthelpline really briliant). Also as everyone has said why not post upr your SOA and you will get some great advice.

    Take care

1inamillyon please don't panic, you are not alone in being in this situation (just take a look at this board!) you can always come here to look for support from people who understand exactly what you are going through. if the situation is as bad as you say and bankruptcy is your only option please try to take heart in the fact that lots of other people have been through bankruptcy and come out the other end better than before. It can be an opportunity for a fresh start with a clean slate. It is not easy, and it is a time of real ups and downs, but it's not the end of the world either and taking this step can free you from the incredible pressure you must have been under. Please get in touch with the CCCS or one of the other debt charity's, you will be surprised at how sympathetic and understanding they will be, just talking it all through with them will make you feel better, and give you a positive plan for moving forward and sorting everything out.

I echo what the others have said - CCCS and National Debtline are very sympathetic, they will help you get started.

You are taking the first step to sorting yourself out, just by admitting you're in financial trouble - so in the same position as a lot of us here :kisses3:.
