if i may i might have an idea for you.
if you dont want to go through the insurance thats fine if you cant afford the repair cost bummer.
but what i would do in this situation is auction the car as a non catagory accident repairable through ebay. with the money buy a run about and change the vehicle details on your policy for an admin fee, this will allow you to continue to you NCB till end of policy. then if saved enough get another car and the run about will be you part ex. or you go through insurance and get repaired if written off buy back the car take the money and repair it with the cash given then the car will have to be VIC tested in order to get it retaxed. or save the cash and get repaired and take bus to work or lift with colleague.0 -
Chaps/Chapesses, Me and the Mrs have decided that regardles of what happens, we'd like to sell the Micra. We'd like to put that money towards a new car and finance the excess amount. Ive been reading quite a bit about small cars and its a toss up between the Mazda 2 Turmera or the new shape Yaris. The majority of customer verdicts are in favour of the Yaris therefore we're gonna go for one. I have a couple of questions though: 1. Brand New or Used 2. If used, what type of mileage threshold 3. Diesel or Petrol 4. What's the best places to check out for deals - AutoTrader, Ebay are the common ones. Any other hidden gems? 5. Any other advice/tips? Thanks, http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/toyota/yaris/postcode/m201pf/radius/1500/sort/priceasc/fuel-type/diesel/transmission/manual/maximum-mileage/up_to_5000_miles About £10K for a TY under 2000 miles - what do you guys think?0

Hope everything sorts itself out.
One little thing that may also have been overlooked - is there any damage to any property that the vehicle hit? I know its probably just paint scuffs on the pillar but just in case....
We had someone at work who reversed into a pillar of a multi-storey carpark. They let the attendant know, who was not overly bothered. A few weeks later they received a bill from the local council for costs of inspection of the pillar for structural damage. They passed it to their insurers who sorted it.
(Also is there an offence being committed if you leave the scene of an accident without reporting any damage, even if it just scrapes on a concrete pillar?)0 -
I got a minor for leaving my car in gearon my test.0

I think you should go and actually drive the car before choosing it! Is that how you ended up with the micra?!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Nah the Micra was bought for us a wedding present by the inlaws. I didn't know anything about it until it was unveiled it me the day (obviously not Brand New).
I just checked out a comparison site to see how much it would cost us if we were to purchase a new car for about £9500ish. Details entered, me (policy holder), wife (named driver), accident details as per this thread.
It would cost us about £2200 per year.
Im wondering if I should get the new car insured in my dads name whose got brilliant no claims record and then add myself and wife as additional drivers?
When filling out the forms for a new quote, I need to tell them about MY accident circumstances BUT do i need to reinput these same details for my wife too? (She is currently a named driver on the Micra)0 -

Only if you want the policy to be void and face prosecution if found out. Search 'fronting'.sho_me_da_money wrote: »When filling out the forms for a new quote, I need to tell them about MY accident circumstances BUT do i need to reinput these same details for my wife too? No, you only enter the details once under your details. No reason why you can't insure in your wife's name, but with a claim and zero NCB your insurance is gonna sting.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Is there any way I can get a cheaper quote. My current remium was about £1000 per year for the Micra that is worth £3400
Cmon on MAN, you are the maestro, give me that "Special X" :money: move you use!0
