  • I bought a Medion Laptop a few years ago from Dixons- never again repairs are a nightmare for these as they are not straightforward the engineers dont like working on them as they are so fiddly to repair, i rejected it in favour of another make.

i bought a Medion PC from Aldi a couple of years ago ... and am using it till this day.

No problems, and at that time, it was excceptional value for money.

So, 2 years on, great advances in technology / software / graphics cards ...... have I thrown the PC away?? Not a chance!! It suits me prefectly. At the time, 80GB was considered a 'large' hard disk. All i have done is add an additional 200Gb second hard drive - bought from Aldi ...

I don't do gaming on it. I surf, use spreadsheets, write letters and store pics on the machine. For all of that, it is brilliant.

My sister bought one as well - 6 months after i got mine, and she hada problem with it overheating. Engineer called and fan replaced. Easy.

My mate bought a Gericom laptop from Aldi, and after 16 months it has a problem with cooling, and is awkward to fix. However, this is not a concern on the desktop - if it does happen to be faulty, then you have 3 years warranty.

Unless you are keen to be playing the latest games that require the most up-to-date graphics cards, then this will probably not be suitable.
If however, you are a casual user, then I am sure this will be suitable, and probably considerably faster than your current pc :j

My Medion Pc (desk top) was bought over 3 yrs ago from Aldi.
    I am pleased with it.
I only had to replace the Pioneer 105 DVD burner, but thats not Medions fault. It could have failed in any Badged PC.
At that time it came with a years warranty, as It was out of warranty, I bought a Pioneer 108 from SVP & its still going strong (touch wood !!!!)

I stayed in germany for 4.5 years before coming to UK and I can tell whenever they had PC deals in Aldi, they use to have loooog queues outside ALDI early morning on the day of offer. Also the quality of PC's is sure worth the money.

Personally I would say go for it !!

It's a very basic PC for internet and spreadsheets.

Not cheap, but not expensive either. :D

Had a medion pc for 2 years. The sound recently went off (my husband had done a bit of re-organising the stusy so I think it was his fault.)
However rang Medion and they sent an engineer out who fixed it. Unfortunately after he left the fan started being really noisy (like a hairdryer) I rang Medion and they said there was a known fix - something to do with updating a bios driver!!!!!!! They tried to talk me through it but what he was saying wouldn't work on my pc. They therefore sent the engineer out again. He said it was a different fan to what he thought it would be so am awaiting his return with the correct fan.
I think the customer service has been v good and I would definitely buy from them again
    .
All those who say their fans are noisy have you done this bios update that the Helpdesk says will fix the noise. (not that I know what I am talking about.)
    Regards

my last pc before i made my own small pc was an aldi medion bought end nov 2004. got medion out 4 times, they couldnt fix the noisy cpu fan. it was a known fault but they kept sending engineers out and kept telling me i couldnt get a refund after 28 days. well three months later i packed it up and went to aldi to return it. the asst mgr refused so i left it there with him and wrote them a letter warning them we were going to court. lo and behold they called me and arranged a refund and £20 to spend in store. they know about the noisy fans and they cant fix them, theres no bios update which fixes the noisy cpu fan even though they fobbed me off with that one a few times. You will be lucky to get the noise sorted if it was the same model as mine (nov 04).

  • I saw this in Aldi last week and thought it might be decent until I looked at the graphics option and had a bit of a giggle to myself.

The way they are marketing this system suggests it is a bit of a multimedia performance beast.

Those folks "not in the know" could easily be convinced they can be playing the latest games when not indulging in other entertainment functions and be sorely disappointed with the....cue drum roll and trumpet fanfare...."S3 Graphics UnichromeTM PRO IGP".

If it was around 250 quid it might be a decent option in my mind.

Buy a computer from a food shop then you get the support of a food shop. ie. replacement.

That's no good if you have spent hours installing programs, photos and other media.

This is a cr*p deal and represents end of line technology and anyone buying it should know that it it already obsolete.

Speak ( actually meet and talk with ) someone who sells computers for a living and get proper advice about YOUR needs - not what they want to sell you.

this is utter nonsense!how can you slam the machine, when for so many people (those that surf, store photos and do some word processing / spreadsheets) it is a perfectly adequate machine, that will meet the job at hand?I have one that is getting on a bit, and the only change I have made is to upgrade the hard disc - as in put another one in, as my music / photo collection was increasing in size. So, for me, the machine is perfect - it allows me to complete the tasks that I require of it, and in an adequate manner.I agree that there is validity in going to a shop and talking over your requirements - I suggested that to my neighbour, and she ended up buying a PC from the local PC shop, as opposed to the Aldi deal as it was more suited to her needs.
