Did they not tell the noisy guests to be quiet?

As you complained at the time, you do have grounds to take it further.

They didn't complain about the noisy guests or the fire alarm at the time as they complained at 1am. It wasn't till after the nightclub was quiet at 1.30 that the fire alarm and noisy guests started.
  • did you book through laterooms or something?
beware that sometimes, because late rooms or companies similar have organised a special rate with the hotel, the hotel will usually provide a poorer room than paying a standard room cost direct with the hotel. if you have booked with a third party company you should speak to them to investiage on your behalf.

i always book direct with hotel.

    Hi there,

I booked through Hotels.com and there customer service is very helpful. Where they have a policy for refunds which looks to be a lot stronger than the hotel company.

What's the name of the hotel?

Before I book any hotel, I always check out the reviews in Tripadvisor. I would suggest you do the same next time you bok a hotel, it's never let me down yet.

I have a pretty good idea which hotel this is, its been mentioned on the Wedding board and the reviews on TripAdvisor are quite poor!!

    Was it Britannia?

We had a terrible night in there on our honeymoon. We were flying from Manchester mid morning, but decided to travel the day before and have a night in Manchester. We told them on booking that we were a honeymoon couple, just in case they wanted to upgrade us or give us freebies :D

On arrival we found we were booked into a small tatty room with no window. It smelled musty and it had no lightbulbs?! Reception were irritated because we asked for lightbulbs.

Went to the health club and the swimming pool ladder was broken. It wobbled a lot and I fell off and cracked my both knees on the top step. They both swelled up and were badly bruised, and it made the long haul flight very uncomfortable.

We wanted an evening meal, but the hotel restaurant was fully booked and the snack bar was closed. We were told we should have booked a table in advance but we were not told this on booking. Asked where we could eat and they said they may be able to squeeze us into the restaurant but we would only be allowed the table for 30-45 minutes. Luckily a taxi driver overheard and directed us to a gorgeous Italian restaurant a few minutes walk away. We had a lovely meal and it wasn't rushed.

Got back to the hotel and discovered that they had shoved two single beds together, with single sheets and blankets on rather than put us in a double bed. Nice touch for a honeymoon couple!

Couldn't sleep as the room was musty and stuffy which set my husbands asthma off, and then we had the loud noise from the nightclub and noise from other guests. There were people wandering about yelling in the corridor all night and someone had music on in their room loud. Reception said they couldn't do anything about it?!

Ordered breakfast in bed and it never came. Rang down a few times and kept being told it would be there in a minute but it never came. Just as we were leaving the room, a pot of luke warm coffee and a few cold bits of toast were delivered. We just left it as we needed to catch our flight.

Would never ever stop there again. We were expecting a luxurious first night on our honeymoon but just ended up disappointed.

Did write and complain twice but nobody bothered to reply.

To be frank, I'm amazed that you are surprised that it was so poor. I've never booked a hotel room knowing that it doesn't even have a window....

You don't get a window? I've never heard of such a hotel.

£130 to stay in Manchester? That's outrageous. You can get a nice Premier Inn room for around £60, and they have windows!
