    Pathways to Work

Pathways to Work helps people to get work if they are receiving Employment and Support Allowance or an incapacity benefit because of a health condition or disability. The help is tailored specifically for each person taking part in the programme.
    About Pathways to Work

Pathways to Work is a programme run by Jobcentre Plus to help people who are claiming Employment and Support Allowance or incapacity benefits to get work.

You will be expected to take steps to find work or prepare for work unless you have a health condition or disability that severely affects your ability to do so. As well as help from Jobcentre Plus, you may get extra support from one of its partner organisations from the private and voluntary sectors. Those organisations are called 'providers'.

You may be entitled to extra money when you start or stay in work.

    Hi Healy

Thank you for your quick reply. Thats what I thought it was. The problem I have is that technically I am still employed so how do I stand there. The only reason I am claiming ESA is because my employer is no longer paying me SSP. Also I will be going in to hospital in about 16 weeks to have a hip replacement. After that I will have anything up to 16 weeks rehab. x

I would think they would probably leave you alone for a while but it is up to the person conducting the interview.

When you go for the Pathways Interview just explain your current situation to them and they will be able to advise you from there. If you fail to turn up your ESA will be sanctioned as Pathways Interviews are mandatory.

    Hope that helps!;)
  • my mum was still employed but they made her attend all of the pathways to work interviews and they even admitted it was pointless but they was bound by the new esa guidelines
always send a smile as it costs nothing..

    Hi Chellybelly,

Does seem a bit pointless but if thats the guidelines who are we to argue with them. I might not be employed for 2 long anyway as they are now considering paying me off because of the amount of time I have had off and the amount of time I will need off in the future. x
  • My Pathways Advisor is lovely and understands my illness and my reasons that working is really quite impossible (which is more than some people!) but as she says, these interviews are mandatory and a tree killing exercise.

Yes you still have to attend.

If you are found unfit for work you will still have to attend unless you are in the Support Group.
