Queenie wrote:Pie Crust: Line a pie dish with the cold rice and using the back of a spoon push it down flat on the base and up the sides like pastry. Add a filling (chopped chicken in a white sauce, left over savoury mince?) which needs to be a little damp or the finished result will be too dry and unpalatable - even a basic cheese sauce can be used! Bake until the filling is set/golden and serve with a mixed green salad
Like this idea Queenie - might try this with a quiche-type filling just to ring the changes in our house!Mink0 -
Gee thanks guys! Im totally astounded at all these recipes!!
Before i came to these boards, it wouldve been chucked in the bin!!
This was my very first time cooking rice that wasnt boil in the bag!!.....in the interest of saving money of course!
The box said one cup of rice per person.....perhaps my booboo was to use a large mug to measure it out...oops!
Now my problem is which recipe to go for.....maybe i will cook too much next time too and try them all lol

1. Nut and marmite rice
Fry a handful of nuts and a couple of teaspoons of marmite, then add the rice. Even better with a few herbs (thyme goes well and black pepper)
2. Egg fried rice
Break an egg over the rice (with a bit of oil) and mix while it cooks.
Lots of Indian recipes, but they need some special ingredients (spices etc) so will leave out unless people want.0 -

Maybe you could throw a few bits and pieces in and make a risotto for lunch or dinner tomorrow - whatever you have can go in, it doesn't have to be a proper recipe.
Risotto with pre-cooked rice.... Caterina...........!!!!!!♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -

i thought rice slad - red onions ,sweetcorn, chopped cucumber, toms etc but then i got stuck for ideas!

You can't make traditional rice pudding using long grain rice (though I know there was some sort of recipe on here a while ago using it! But it won't be a s soft/sticky)
Rice salad sounds nice. You could also try paella, savoury rice, rice mixed with tuna & sweetcorn. Rice is nice added to homemmade burgers too.0 -
how about egg fried rice? cook rice first then chuck it in a wok/large pan add cooked veg/peppers/onion/chicken /bacon basically what ever you have available etc bit off butter. whisk up few eggs add to pan and mix quickly until egg has cooked. you can also add garlic/chilli flakes what ever you fancy. spose you could also do it with veggie things like quorn.Lead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
I do rice salad with sweetworn, peas and raisins. Make a dressing out of some balsamic, olive oilt and orange juice and mix it all together - delish.
You can also do stuffed peppers - cook some oions, mushrooms, any other veg, mix with rice, stuff the pepper and top with cheese - again yum!Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)
