o2 mobile internet question

I recently bought a payg o2 mobile broadband dongle & some credit.

I then tried my mobile phone sim card in the dongle (I have the unlimited internet bolt on) and it worked, the o2 software just thought it was a contract mobile broadband sim and worked fine.

I am wondering if I can just use my phone sim and save on buying payg credit or will I be charged in some way for data usage?

Would like to hear from anyone who has tried this out.

Cheers!

People do this with 3 - although only with 3 PAYG mobile phone SIMS. This is because on 3 you can get a month of mobile broadband data for £5 a month on a payg mobile phone sim, but you have to pay £10 for 1GB of mobile broadband data on a 3 mobile broadband SIM.

I've not heard of people doing this with O2 though.

You need to be fairly careful because often 'unlimited data tariffs' on mobile phone SIMS explicitly say tethering (e.g. connecting the mobile phone to a computer for web use) is not included in the unlimited data and charges apply.

Do you have a Blackberry Unlimited Data bolt-on? If you do - be doubly carefully because the Blackberry data plans are specifically for Blackberry compression and don't include any non-Blackberry compressed data.

Because what you're doing isn't tethering though I don't know how it would see it. I would suggest looking at your O2 bill online in a couple of days and seeing if you're getting any excess charges for it.
