You have my utmost sympathy. I've had the 'weekend from hell' because I decided to upgrade(joke) to AOL 9.1. My 12 month contract ends at the end of March and I'm thinking of moving to SKY. I've had blank black screens,I've had white frozen screens, Double screens, screen not responding when clicked to close. I could go on and on but I'm worn out with coping with AOL. I wish you all the best resolving your problems. Not sure who you need to complain to but I'm sure you'll get some good advice. I've been with AOL for nearly 4 years but I think I've nearly reached the end of my tether with them.

Why don't you just use your AOL broadband (if you must) without the dreadful AOL software? You can use a 'normal' web browser and a 'normal' email program, no requirement to use the AOL ones.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

What provider would you recommend? do you think SKY would be any better than AOL? my contract with AOL expires at the end of March. I've been with AOL ever since I bought my 1st and only PC. Daunted by the choices but SKY sounds a good deal because I could have top speed package for £10.00 per month because I've already got the TV/Phone which I'm really happy with. Would appreciate your advice. Many thanks.

Broadband is exchange specific, so it's not possible to give general recommendations. Go to samknows.com, do an exchange search and look for the available LLU providers, these will be the best deals on that exchange.
Bear in mind that if you go to Sky and you are on a Sky LLU exchange, then your line will be LLU'd to them, and you would not be able to leave Sky unless you first take your line rental back to BT. And of course you will lose your phone and broadband if you decide to leave Sky TV.
It also depends if your line is already LLU'd-who do you pay your line rental to at present?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We currently pay B.T. for line rental. Very happy with TV/phone package so not likely to leave SKY. Thanks for your advice and I understand what you mean re Exchange Specific. Not a very technically minded person and find it all very daunting.

If you post your LLU options, more advice can be given.

  • I use AOL e-mail address via googlemail under google chrome or mozilla firefox or IE depending on what there is where I log in. At home us SKY -fine for me - nice and cheap cos have the rest of the sky package and works OK.

I've taken the plunge and signed up to SKY UNLIMITED B.B.today plus I've ditched my B.T. line and will now pay SKY for line rental. They offered me a good deal & I'd be daft to stay with AOL. Thanks again for your help.

What is your total cost Francesanne? Im in same boat you were...paying £14.99 per month for AOL/talktalk and paying BT for line rental. Also if i leave AOL can I still access my AOL email account,as I have a good email address,id like to keep.?
