No freeview signal.

Just moved into our new house and are unable to tune in the freeview or normal channels. So far my husband has wiggled about all the cables going into the telly and wall, been in the loft wiggling cables, been on the roof wiggling aeriel, been to Tesco and bought a little aerial for on top of the telly but it still says no signal found.
The postcode checker on the internet says we are in a very good signal area.
The digital switchover checker says oours hasn't been changed yet and not due until 2012 so we know its not that.
Any ideas before we pay for a man in to come and look at it?

Yes, first concentrate on trying to get a good analogue terrestrial TV signal on all 5 channels using the small aerial.. Once you have the channels set up adjust the roof aerial until to get a good signal on all channels and then you should then scan the freeview box for digital channels.0

If you have checked the connectors on the main aerial lead I would imagine you have done all you can and its time to call someone in.
Unless your husband has experience of roof work and all his safety gear its not worth going back up.0 -
I'm assuming you have re-scanned each channel on the TV as the frequencies change for each channel when you move to a new transmitter.0

Aye could be your TV needs retuning.Oh what's the bloody point...?0

If you can get ch5,just retune your box,do a new channel search0

I bought an SLX gold digitop ariel for £9, which I recieved from amazon today.
I'm not in a good signal area. I'm 12 miles from the transmitter, but after much messing about (ie: totally re-arranging my bedroom) I can receive all the freeview channels. I had to turn the gain up to high, and plug into the mains.
I'm in a dip, and have loads of trees nearby, and there was just one position (the windowsill) where it worked.
If you are still having problems, and don't mind spending an afternoon finding just the right spot/angle, I would recommend.0 -

You may have problems when the leaves grow and get wet with rain.

Perhaps I should have rephrased.

Thanks, but my reception is quite good, now I've found the spot. I'll be moving soon, so this was just a cheap fix.0
