Selling house, anti-social HA residents next door.

I'd see if the HA was a public body that had to abide the Human Rights act of 1998. You could considering court action against the HA to claim damages for not acting in ways compatible with the right to peaceful enjoyment of your property and the right to respect for private and family life. If you got an award, you may be able to cover losses for then selling you property at auction to get away from the chavs.

That would be the most satisfying course of action. I imagine it would be expensive with court and solicitors fees. If ruled in favour, the HA would be liable for them too. Might actually work as a threat to get them to buy off me or face the consequences.

I don't care if they know I complain, I'm not scared of them. My only worry is the declaration on selling.
They work in the same place as me (a hospital) but in vastly separate departments. However, I do hold a position of some influence and am considering speaking to their line managers to inform them of their habits and to keep an eye on "unexplained" sick leave.

TBH you are not putting yourself in a good light here, very sly.

You are going to speak to the neighbours and then not declare the problem when you sell? You have then lined up witnesses to your deceit! You better be 100% confident this person is taking drugs before you 'have a quiet word' with their boss, you could get someone suspended or sacked.

Far better to get them a warning by the police or Environmental Health going round or just have a quiet word yourself explaining that you have seen drug dealers and they are putting you in a difficult position work-wise.

  • As I just said, I'm keeping work out of it. Talking to them would be pointless. We would just get the "who do you think you are" type response. From experience, these types just don't care.

How do you know they are actually taking drugs in the house?
  • I have seen it firsthand. They aren't very discreet.
  • you can report any crime anonymously to crimestoppers they never ask for your name. If they are not actually dealing drugs that may not be much help. Probably the best way would be to get all neighbours involved and contact HA. Or can you afford to put it in an auction? It is so unfair that one family can cause so much disruption and get away with it.

I don't think they are dealing, however, know dealers have visited there so I don't know if crimestoppers can do any thing at all.

I'm going to contact the HA today to see if they will again consider buying my property. Thats not really what I want but at least my property is on the end of a row with only them next door. In my opinion, they should do the decent thing and help me out. I would never have bought this house if I knew HA were going to buy next door.

If the property was for sale anybody could have bought it - why should they buy the property of you just because they are a HA? What if they had been private owners and were awful? Or a buy to let landlord? The main advantage of them being a HA is that you can report the issues to them and they will need to deal with them - unless you do this they won't know there's a problem surely.

Whilst I completely empathise with living next door to horrible neighbours, unless your next property is in the middle of a field with no neighbours, you can never be 100% that any of the properties that go up for sale around you won't be purchased by a HA (or the private owner from hell for that matter). Even if you buy next door to a private let, under the local housing allowance scheme somebody on housing benefit could move in next door.
