    Think about what you are acutally addicted to. If its actually the chocolate you are addicted to, you can buy now 90% chocolate in some supermarkets and in some specialised chocolate stores even 99% chocolate. No or little sugar, just pure chocolate. If it really is the chocolate you are addicted to, try eating this stuff, it should hit the spot and you'll need much less of it.

    But if its actually the fat and the sugar and mild powder you are addicted to, then you have hit the exact spot the marketing managers want you to. They make the "chocolate" like this in order to get people "hooked" and repeatedly coming back for more. They need to do this as otherwise no one would eat choclate bars- being that it has no other nutritional benefit unless you are trying to gain weight quickly.


    Work out how to cut down and always remember, it is due to the marketing and design of this product that you will always lust for more after eating what you have, you will rarely ever feel you have had enough and can stop now. Not unless you have really gone beyond too much and feel very ill, if your at that point its often already too late!

    I'd agree with the above, work out a plan and stick to it- continually review it each week or 10 days and work out if its working for you, if not alter it till you have something you can stick with. Try to remember your "rock bottom" where you felt very trapped and disturbed by what you were eating, keep going back to just how much you wanted to change in your mind, use this desire to change as your motivation to keep on trying to change.

    If you have 'blips' where it all falls apart, pick yourself up as soon as you can and carry back on. Do not wait for the next day or week or month to restart again, start again from the very second you realise you had made an error. Don't let things slip, picking things up and restarting again already takes alot of effort, why make it worse by needing to redo a whole load of steps you rewrote by thinking "I'll just start again later" instead of "start again now"!

    Aldi sell 85% dark choc for 99p.125g bar consists of 5 x 25g individually wrapped bars-bet you can't eat more than 2 x 25g in one sitting.....

    I'm not sure about being addicted to chocolate but I definately CANNOT live without it and used to eat loads of the stuff. What i found worked for me is just to have a little everyday, like a small penguin or something (and eat it really slowly) just to get my fix then i'd be happy for the rest of the day.... I think (in my experience) going cold-turkey, you are only going to crave it more and more and may have episodes of gorging on the stuff, so in my opinion, having a little, or cutting right down is your best bet...   • Go into a Thorntons outlet shop, buy a box of their winter / xmas selection chocs reduced down to £3 a box and eat a few of them. Will put you off chocolate for life as they are totally disgusting and I now never want to see chocolate again!

    Sounds a bit unsupportive to me - do they know how upset you are?

    We have a very small amount of chocolate in our house, which is hidden by OH at my request. If I want some, I have to ask him. He knows that he has to be firm and say no if I've already had some or if I've had a really indulgent dinner. I have very little self control when it comes to sweet things, so this really does help me. He doesn't have a sweet tooth, so he thought the whole thing was a bit unnecessary at first, but he's very proud of my weight loss now. :)

    If you have a severe lack of self control when it comes to chocolate, the help of your family really will make a difference. You should talk to them.

    I have tried the cold turkey and it don't work. If I deprive myself I just pig out after a while and I'm back to square one.

    I find that if I allow myself a treat every day I don't go mental for it, not a Mars bar or Twix but something small like a kit kat (2 fingers) or Blue Ribband - its mainly wafer but you get a chocolate hit.

    If you eat well for the rest of the day the odd cholcolate bar should not be a problem weight wise, but if its chocolate on top of buttery toast, chips and takeaway its a problem.
    I like the Slimming World plan where you can have anything you want as long as it is controlled and in the correct quantities.

    Saying all of that, I have eaten a Galaxy Bubbles Bar this morning and I'm currently about 3 stone overweight :o

    Believe it or not, getting rid of an "addiction" like this can actually be quite easy - I'm a hypnotherapist and have done it for others as well as myself. It can take just a couple of minutes. The question that I would ask is how will you fill the "chocolate gap" once the chocolate addiction has gone. Sugar free sweets can be good but if you eat too many you'll spend an uncomfortable afternoon in the little room. Ultimately you don't really want to just swap one addiction for another, unless it's a good one :-)
  • I'm glad I found this thread. I have given up smoking before and nothing compare to how hard I am finding it to curb my chocolate eating. I go days with eating nothing but chocolate and cakes. First thing in the morning I crave it and it doesnt go away til I fall asleep. If anyone leaves chocolate lying around I'll eat it and feel guilty afterwards and if anyone asks me how much I eat I lie cos Im so embarrassed. It sounds funny but it isn't. I feel anxious most of the time and Im sure it's all the chocolate. I worry about what it's doing to my health but not enough for me to stop. I have high blood sugar but am not diabetic yet and although I am not overweight I am gaining weight not that I am approaching 30. I have been like this for as long as I can remember, when I wa little I was given biscuits and milkshake for breakfast. Today I ate 4 chocolate eclairs for lunch and nothing else, last night I ate 6 Creme Eggs for tea! I would love to never eat it again because as much as I love it I hate it too. I have even started looking into Gastric Bands and wonder if I could have one even though Im not overwieght cos although it may not look like it, I'm doing serious damage to myself. If I could take a pill that would make me sick if I ate it I would in a second.

    Anyway that's my story, thought I'd add my bit! If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful xx
