How much should I pay for an allotment in Cornwall?

I have found an allotment for £100 for the year. It is 10m x 20m. I am unsure if this is a good price or not having never had an allotment before. My Grandad lives in Birmingham and said the allotments there are £14 a year although I am unsure how big they are!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :j

Ours is £20 in Berkshire. It's pretty much the same size as yours.

i guess its a private site with that fee

100 a year isnt going to break the bank, BUT is alot more than a council run site would be

I think that's quite expensive tbh. What sort of facilities does the site have? I would expect a loo at the very least!

It's a long time since we had an allotment that £100 seems incredibly expensive to me and I'm sure Local Authority ones don't charge anywhere near this. If it's a private one it seems to me that the landowner is really trying to cash in of the shortage of allotments. Just remember that you will will have to grow at least £100 worth of vegetables every year just to break even, let alone save any money, and that doesn't include your labour. The other alternative, if you're desperate to have it, is to find somebody to share it with you to reduce the cost. I would certainly expect water to be laid on for that rent.

I am in Cornwall and a friend of mine has just aquired an allotment. He will be paying £92 a year for his. We do grow a lot of our own veg at home and have considered an allotment, but by crumbs, I could buy an awful lot of veg for £92. It is a private allotment and just shows what it is like to live in Cornwall, very, very expensive!!

I can't remember what it is but i've seen a website where people share their gardens. Someone who isn't able to look after it any longer gets someone else to do it, just for a share in the output.
Maybe you can look into that.

£100 would buy you a substantial amount of veg over a year, start adding in the other costs and it will certainly turn into a labour of love.
