I'm lactose and gluten intolerant....and because of not eating either and my system still trying to get used to it (used to have severe diarrhoea pretty much as a constant) and rebalance itself, I've not been in a week. Last week I didn't go for a week either!
I've already taken senna (Boots tablets) and some syrup of figs, and I'm starting to get stirrings but I want to know how to get myself more regular. I eat a lot of fruit and veg (the majority of my meals are either salad with fruit or fruit in jelly for pudding, and I have either benas or lots of veg with evening meals) I can't eat bread or pasta to get the fibre so what else could help?

Psyllium husk capsules (from Holland and Barratt). 2 per day should do the trick.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

You could try Aloe vera colon cleanse, also from H&B - take one in the evening just before bed.I was going to take over the world but got distracted by something sparkly.......0

Laxatives are a short-term solution and may cause more problems than they solve long-term. If you're eating plenty of fruit and veg it might just be that you will need some time to acquire a regular habit but you must ensure that you are drinking enough fluids and getting some exercise. The addition of oat-bran to some of your meals might help to establish a regular habit, just one dessert-spoon a day can make a big difference.0

How are you with dried fruit? A handful of that a day should help and it can easily be added to lots of things if you don't like it plain. Also, lots and lots of water.
This is a good chart of foods with a high fibre content. The site is American but you can get most, if not all of these over here

A glass of fresh orange juice often helps too.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

OJ makes me puke, and I can't eat oat bran, as I just can't get on with it....I drink LOTS of water, about 2 to 3 litres a day.
What will a double dose of senna do to me? As I feel quite ill cos I haven't been

Hi Elfen I am lactose intolerant too and it is a real pain, so many foods have hidden milk in them and all hell breaks loose in the bathroom department! Anyway if I really need to go I try 2 glasses of fresh orange or failing that a small piece of cheese! Non-wheat complex carbs will help to bulk you out. Make sure you are always really well hydrated as your body takes the water in your bowel to hydrate itself and that will make poos harder!0

I'm surprised you haven't been if you eat so much fruit and veg but maybe your body is adjusting.
Try other carbs like rice, cous cous, barley, millet, quinoa, whole oats. You said you eat beans but also try lentils or chickpeas.
Eating some fat might help as well, try some roast veg or stirfry and be liberal with the oil.0 -
Have you tried Fybogel?0
