Carpets or savings??

I must admit that I dont like laminate for downstairs but find it ok and nice and clean for upstairs. Bamboo flooring is relatively cheap and real wood but if you prefer carpet then that can be very nice too. I would buy them as you have £2000 as a buffer and if you dont buy them that money might get eaten away and you'll have nothing to show for it. If you buy the carpets it will make you very careful with the remaining funds until you are able to get a job and it sounds to me as if you are very employable. So enjoy.

I would definitely not buy the carpet unless I had a guarantee of the income to cover all my predicted expenditures. I definitely would do temping in another field to fund the purchase of the carpets if I wanted them as much as you very clearly do.

If the carpet is depressing you why not buy relatively cheap colourful rug(s) until you can afford the carpets?

I do have rugs everywhere. If I had floorboards underneath I'd just rip them up but I have concrete.

I think that by the time I get all the quotes, I will know better about my work situation, so I might leave it for now and think of it for a few months' time.

I know how you feel skintchick. I have concrete floors and the hall and bedroom carpets are a mid petrol blue colour. I think they went down in about 1996. I hate them with a passion. They never seem any cleaner after using my vax on them and as I have a bungalow they are on show all the time.

If it were me, I'd wait until I knew when I was going to get paid.

If they are real friends they won't mind about your carpet!

I know. But a new friend came round for the first time and and told me my house looked tired! I was hurt, but it's true.

How bad are the carpets. The one in my front hall has a hole in it which goes right throug the underlay to the floor. I've hidden it with a rug but the fact its there upsets me. If I had the money I'd buy a new carpet. I'm sick of my house been comented on as homely and lived in. Oh well only 2 years to go. lol
