Can an O2 PAYG be used on any phone ?

I am thinking of buying a new phone, perhaps off e-bay but am not sure if all phones can use my existing O2 PAYG sim card? I have been looking at O2 simlock phones, but do they have to be specified for PAYG? Can anyone advise please?

    you can use that sim in ANY O2 phone or ANY unlocked mobile phone. Worse case almost all mobile phones can be unlocked for about £10, most Nokia's for free
