Lordy, £150 sign up fee? Eeek. You'd have to be confident that they'd put a fair bit of business your way then, and also have the time to make the amount you'd need to make that back plus your profit. Can see why you are taking your time to consider it.

  • :rotfl::rotfl:Elly you crack me up with your story-telling!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

I've asked a couple of pattern designers for permission to sell the finished articles and am waiting for a reply. There are a lot of free patterns out there, but these have really appealed to me and I'm not seeing much along the same lines out there yet. In the meantime, I have a question for the wise dribblers.

I had thought that perhaps I could get around the permission situation, at least for word of mouth selling (rather than website) by asking for payment for the wool only, rather than the finished product. I'm not sure if that would actually get around the no selling issue, and also wondering how ethical it is too. Am I making any sense??!! Lol, take the lambies for example - I haven't heard back from the original pattern designer, and whilst I could change the pattern, I don't think that would hold water if someone wanted to sue me! So if someone here wanted a lambie for instance, surely it would be ok for me to say I can't sell the lambie, but if you buy the wool I shall make it as a gift.....

Thoughts would be appreciated on this one!

Hmm...I think that for 'word of mouth' sales you can actually charge for your time. As in, set a price. Several companies I've contacted over similar enquiries have said that charging friends and family to make something using their copyrighted materials are fine, but listing them online and selling them as a business is not. As you don't actually know if yours is copyright, that sounds a safe way to play it?

I've got so much inside my head, it's really fuzzy. Was going home to set up my new desk tomorrow but things have got in the way so it'll be Tuesday now...

And I'm so overtired that I'll never sleep. Bleugh.

Edit: And now I thread killed. Oops! Sorry guys.

  • Tis lovely and springlike here, Elly.

We should have an old folks home in the village (sorry Rosie, not referring to you, you're a spring chicken ... or duck :)). Now, who's going to run St Merkin's?:D

Mexican is in Madrid tonight, he text me that it was 19 degrees. It was about 6/8 here today, but I feel the cold badly, so it's still feeling like Winter to me.

I can't wait to come...need to look at housing again, though. And try to learn Spanish, sort out my health and launch my business. Not much, then!

Can we have some cute piglets in the village? Piggies are cute.

Edit: I've just made a costing spreadsheet. Ebay is by far the most expensive place for me to sell, and my site is the cheapest. Etsy is quite expensive when you factor in paypal conversion fees, too. Folksy is okay right now, but when the commission comes in, I might resort to just promoting my site instead.

I also know exactly how much it costs me to make things, and now I'm considering my pricing.
Then I need to finish my business plan...

Money, you always seem so organized. I need a whiteboard and some markers to organize myself!

Edit: I get really lonely when you guys disappear!
