Help! Skype Videocalling - Trust WB1200p Mini Webcam

Options
Hi all,

Trying desperately to be able to use my webcam when I call my mum - we both have a Trust WB1200p mini webcam so that it would be easier, but as of yet have never been able to see eachother.

Please can anyone advise what we may be doing wrong? I have checked Skype video options and tested etc - I can see myself fine but never her.

When I speak to my mum all I see within Skype is a black screen that occasionally has 2 small blue circles with writing in them, but nothing more.

Any help much appreciated as we'll never get it fixed otherwise :wall: ...

Thank you.

I wonder if your firewall is blocking that port, have you gone into the firewall settings and allowed the skype software full access

you might have to do the same with the webcam software

I'm sorry Browntoa - you'd need to take babysteps with me on that one - how do I do it? I have Outpost Firewall if that helps?

    from the web site

utpost is highly configurable, the Options window covers five key areas of Outpost: General settings, Application Rules, System settings and Rules, Outpost's Policy and lastly Plugin options.

double click on the firewall icon on the bottom right of your screen

    click on the "Options" tab

    click on the "Application" tab

highlight blocked applications and then click on the "edit" button , check if the skype ot Webcam software has been blocked

if so then make it trusted

highlight partially allowed and do the same

highlight trusted applications and make sure that both Skype and the webcam software appear there if not you may need to add them by browsing to the program file on your Pc

    Blocked is only cepe.exe
    Partially allowed: audprun.exe

I don't know what those 2 even are?

I wanted to put a screenshot here and saved the jpg for you to see but don't see a way of showing it to you in this post.

I have added amcap.exe to 'allowed', which seems to be the webcam and will test this, but I don't think my mum even has a firewall so her end should not have this problem.

If you have any ideas I'll gratefully take them on board :o

Also looked in the Skype file to add video software to the firewall 'allowed' section, but all it showed was 'skype.exe' and an uninstall.exe - no video.exe or similar there to add?

My mum doesn't even know what MSN Messanger is unfortunately - I have asked her to install the Trust drivers as on her Skype Video options she only had a default Windows drop-down option for the webcam. Once she has installed the Trust CD and selected this in the video options, could be it wil all work... weird thing is sometimes other people call her and she can see them on video but never me and I can never see her?

I also had problems setting up a Trust webcam with Skype recently on a friends computer. I tried all variations, looking at webcam drivers, and version of Skype. Nothing worked. I could see the webcam worked well, it just wouldn't work with Skype. I put it down to incompatability problems in the end. On a search for resolutions, I found others on the net with the same problem.

I checked the Skype site out for recommended webcams. We bought a Logitech webcam, and this installed, and worked straight away.

Hi Rex - which Logitech model did you buy and where can it be bought @ cheapest price? I'm happy to go on your recommendation in order to fix this as she's in Portugal and it's the only way we can see eachother, thanks. ;)

We checked out what webcam models Skype were selling in their own shop, and went out and bought the Quickcam Express locally. I figured that if they sold these models in the Skype shop, there wouldn't be a problem with compatability.

Once you've chosen a webcam you like. Try FROOGLE to compare prices.

    Check out the shop here.
