New here need some questions answered.

I'm currently in over £20.000 in debt. I'm also on benefits.

I dont have the money to pay the debts and cant see any other option then bankruptcy, I am going to get the forms tommorow.

My questions are, what happens with utility bills how do I pay them if they shut down my bank accounts?

What can you have after bankruptcy? can you have a landline etc ?

In regards to a bank account do I open a coop cashminder one before bankrupty or after?

I owe most of my debts to a Lloyds tsb and they arnt being to nice !! I want to get my benefits paid into a different account as when im paid they simply take it and im left with nothing.

Need help ...

My questions are, what happens with utility bills how do I pay them if they shut down my bank accounts? Pay them as usual through your new bank account. Set up new direct debits. Are you in debt on your utilities??

What can you have after bankruptcy? can you have a landline etc ? Do you already have one? Then nothing will change. If you try to get a new one after BR, then yes, you can still have one but they *may* ask for a deposit.

In regards to a bank account do I open a coop cashminder one before bankrupty or after? Best to do it before and get all income/outgoings set up prior to BR. It's one less hassle.

Can you use a trusted family member in the meantime?? If so, call the DWP/Tax Credits (etc) on Monday AM to get all payments transfered into this alternative account and then call them again in a few weeks once your new account is set up. This will ensure your money is yours. OR - You could also ask for the benefits to be paid via giro for a few weeks. Tell them your account has been closed due to you going BR and you haven't set an alternative up yet, they CAN do this.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi there and welcome.

Firstly take some advice from CAB and CCCs as to go BR you must of taken advice. Another source of information is the insolvency website.

If you are going BR you must be insolvent.

If you go BR go to the coop bank and open a basic cashminder account. Transfer Your DDs and away you go. Coop are BR friendly and you will get card and online banking.

Ref utility bills any amounts owed up to your BR can be included in your BR.

All unsecured debts will be included in BR.

If you use the insolvency site you can do your BR forms online and make sure you save them often.

    Any help let us know

    Regards sizzler:)

    Hi Karen,

Just wanted to say Hi....please don`t let LTSB get to you....they are not allowed to `harrass` you & if you feel that they are then there is regulation against it.

If you need help in keeping them at bay until you get the BR sorted then just shout up....just don`t let them upset you.

Its probably best that you open your own basic account. You have nothing to hide and you are allowed an account! Co-Op are very BR friendly and are not likely to refuse you. Plus, a well run account in your name will be a start in helping to repair your credit file; you may need it, life is a long time afterall and you just do not know what's going to happen in the future.

As to the utilities, make sure that you take meter readings on the day of your BR. All debts prior to BR can be included in your BR, but they may make you take a prepayment meter afterwards so you cannot get anoher debt. This is not as bad as it sounds and you can still change provider etc, finding a better tariff.
