Why do we pay a TV tax?

Labour came to power to ramp property and create a huge public sector. One of their main weapons was their anti sleaze campaign and for this they were greatly helped by the BBC. The BBC gave wall to wall coverage to anyone who would talk about Conservative sleaze. For BBC commedians it was open season on Conservaties sleaze.

Here is a BBC news item from 10 years ago.
If there was one word that came to epitomise the last Tory government it was "sleaze".

Note the lurid language and personal prejudice that leaks from the page.

Here is a BBC news item from today.
Three former cabinet ministers have been filmed apparently offering to help influence government policy for money by undercover reporters.
Note the measured language and complete absence of personal criticism from the reporter. Note also the fulsome opportunities given to the accused to defend their position (something totally absent in the 1999 report).

The current Labour party is possibly one of the most incompetant and corrupt governments for at least 50 years. Despite this, the Hampstead socialists who guide BBC policy are instinctively supporting a left wing government over the Conservatives no matter how bad Labour are.

I am all for a free press but the BBC is not free. They are funded by my tax and I deeply object to them using it to pursue political bias and social engineering. Lets get rid of the TV tax. When they are not using my money, they can say what they like.

Yes but you can choose not to subscribe to Sky, whereas you have to "subscribe" to the BBC else you gets some bully boys knocking on your door. The BBC should be optional and those that want to watch it should pay to subscribe. If demand is great enough and quality good it will thrive, if not it will sink but it should have to prove its own worth, like every company not held afloat by public money has to.

The BBC has always been to the left. If employers laege numbers of people which suits the government so they force us to pay for it despite people like me never watching it. It is another stealth tax.

The BBC is great value for money, but you would only notice this once it had gone.

Personally, I think the BBC is one of the world class things we have in this country. As we have seen with Cadburys that set is diminishing. We need to hold onto what we can.

Your so right,I mean at least with the BBC you get quality such as Eastenders,Holby,Casualty and not forgetting oodles of repeats far too many to mention.........The BBC is obsolete and is just a con to tax people at the end of the day. There is no quality left and you only have to look at BBC news24,when a story breaks they consistantly break the news at least 10 minutes after Sky news. I don't have sky either but prefer sky news ove the BBC any day.

As for the so called "Local" BBC its almost entirely covers KENT but little or nothing of Sussex(maybe nothing worth mentioning happens here):D

Yeah but the reason the OP was criticising the BBC was overt political bias, not having to pay the license fee per se.

I think the political bias of the BBC depends on your poltical outlook I don't see them offering much support to unite.I’ve seen one person criticise Willie Walsh on the BBC and that was Derek Hatton
