Faulty TV - no receipt

Most places ask you to fill out a name and address card when buying a TV for the licensing nonsense.
Maybe they could match that to your credit card/bank statement.
Are you sure it simply doesn't need tuning in??0 -

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe if you want to buy a TV you now HAVE to give your name and address, for the tv licencing business.
So they should have a record of the transaction.0 -
^^^^been that way for many many years, same for buying a radio.0

Almost right.
The trader has a duty to obtain personal details from the purchaser for TV licensing purposes. The purchaser is, however, under no duty to provide the correct details, as far as I know.0 -
As they have to take the purchaser details for TV licensing, they have a record of the purchase (I've been able to get them to check the information for me over the phone - and tell me I had a free extended warranty added for the dishwasher when it broke down
)
It did require being very nice and chatty on the phone to them, rather than expecting them to be useless, though.
Maybe popping in there and very nicely saying that you have lost the receipt and meant to keep it for the warranty details, so could they give you a copy of the printout from their system please? Take your TV licence and some other form of ID in case they are unhappy with the request, but they should do it for you.
Then return the TV a week later with this proof.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Really? When did you last buy a radio?
I guess it was before February 1971, when the radio licence was abolished.
Sorry to burst your bubble Keith, the licence required today is a combined TV & Radio licence, the one abolished in 71 was the Radio only licence.
So retailers will ask for name and address for a radio in the same way they will with a TV. Whether the person operating the till follows the companies directions or not is down to them, but the rules buying a TV & a Radio are the same.0 -

You do not need a licence to listen to the radio so retailers have no need/requirement to ask for your name and address.
