Faulty TV - no receipt

Hiya
We bought a DTV from Currys about 6 weeks ago. We do not have the box or receipt anymore but it has stopped working. The digital channels no longer work and we can only use the analogue channels. Obviously we want to take it back for a replacement or a refund but do not know what our rights are (with out proof of purchase) or what to say if the shop tries to fob us off.
Does anyone know where we stand and what we can insist on?
Many thanks

I presume you didn't pay cash in which case your credit card/bank statement should be sufficient. It is not unreasonable for them to insist on some form of proof of purchase, but if you did pay cash be very polite and hope for the best!"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Are you sure it's not the signal acting up?0

If all else fails. Go and buy the exact same item.
Wait two weeks.
Put the old one into the packaging of the newer one, take it back with the new receipt and ask for a refund.
Easy as!0 -

That's approaching fraud. I would refrain from doing this.
Also, if you just go in, they'll be able to find your details on the database from your name and address, and will be able to sort out service from that.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Also they could just swap the item.0

OP, have you tried just rescanning the digital tuner?
Often cures this type of problem.0 -
I would be firm but nice , If it is a high street store most of there company policy is to swap the item if not refund { which they will steer you into swapping for the same item first } . If the item is no longer in stock they may give you a credit note .
As you do not have a recipt I would be clear and state you bought it 6 weeks ago as some places have a cut off date like 12 weeks for returns on electrical items .

If there is no proof of purchase, the retailer doesn't have to do anything. In which case, you can be as firm as you like, but it will get you nowhere.
You are relying on goodwill and nothing more.0 -
Hi, from experience of the trade,' some ' retailers ' have a 28 day window for returning goods, so if the shop are sympathetic you can probably only expect the offer of a repair. If they cannot complete a repair within 28 days THEN you should be entitled to an exchange. To a certain extent the retailers do have both hands tied behind their backs. They want to help and keep a customer but obviously cannot do anything that will lose themselves money.0

If you pop back to the store ask for a duplicate receipt, if you gave your name and address they can trace the receipt and print one out there and then0
