What happened in the 70s? :O

Enough upset and strife which took a very special lady to sort it out in the 80's good old Queen Maggie :j
  • They tried to extend my probation period for striking when I first joined the civil service. I had to remind them that I had completed my probation period before the strike was called. Typical !!!!-up by management.

I agree with others that you should speak to your nearest PCS rep for advice. After all we are trying to protect our terms and condition of service as after the election which ever party are in government they are going to get rid of tens of thousands more civil servants, and they want to do it as cheap as possible.

    Power to the people.

I didn't think you could normally book holiday for the day of a planned strike? Or maybe that was just where I worked.

i would expect management to always deny a request for holiday on a strike period after the date was annouced

Thanks for all the helpful advice people, I'm going to have a conversation with my union rep (again) and see what he can advise. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat at my office but the others have jumped off because of the reasoning "it doesn't affect me". Either way I'm still a 'sheep'.

Normally when a PCS strike is announced all leave and holiday requests are refused and all managers are informed that no form of leave can be taken on a strike day.

I had one colleague who took the day off sick instead of being "on strike". Make what you will of that.

Well, unlike being on strike they'd get paid and wouldn't have to face the pickets. Sickies on strike days often need to be supported with a sick note.

If you agree with the reasons for the strike then strike if you are worried about your job then at times like this you have to be egotistical and think about yourself and hard choices have to be made.
