Cancelled broadband still working (for free!)

A relative of mine recently cancelled his broadband, and hasn't gone to another supplier. The day it was due to stop, he noticed an hour long disruption to his line (as there was when it was activated). However, on trying it afterwards, he finds that the broadband still works. A week has passed and it is still working. He's had the relevant paperwork about the cancellation and has cancelled the direct debit (both with the ISP and his bank).
Where does he stand exactly? He would obviously like to continue getting free broadband if he can, but obviously doesn't want any issues later on!
Any advice please?

He may have cancelled, but it may be the case that it remains on for a month [ cancellation period ] in which case he is still paying for the month !
If the cancellation period has passed, I don't see that there are any issues, assuming he has fulfilled the terms of the cancellation, if they leave the pipe open and the equipment in situ it's their problem.
They will [ if they chose to look ] know precisely what / and when his pipe is in use [ assuming legal ' talk back ' equipment ] but in my experience they never look because his din allocation is not listed in the dBASE.

I'd definately stress this, it is possible you're getting the running on month for free as you were billed monthly but be wary incase they try to sting you for hidden charges.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

O/P doesn't state type / ISP. In a town of one million people N*L leave the copper open in the green cab, they just disable the modem by taking the ' din ' of the [ membership ] server dBASE.
I would bet that 99% of N*L's cancelled pipes are still open countrywide - it costs too much in engineering time to [ pull the copper ] shut-em-down.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Must admit I don't really understand part of the replies, but should there be no liability in his paperwork, should I advise my relative that he can continue usage?0

If he is obtaining a chargeable service to which he is not entitled and for which he is not paying, then it cannot be morally justified to make use of it. Would he happily not inform the utility company if he never got billed for his use of electricity or gas or water? If the ATM accidentally gave out £20 notes instead of £10 notes?
Perhaps they should teach morality in schools, as well as personal finance....0 -

You often preach morality in these groups, the O/P's question was about the legal not moral position.
Quoting utilities and ATM's demonstrates your abuse of, not the use of argument !
Isn't there a GOD group in the forum where you can get all evangelical ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Yes you should just continue :
- it's very likely that you / he / she is only using what you have already paid for, before the cut off [ giving notice period ends ] period, ignore John Gray's irrelevant remarks
- it's very unlikely that if the internet supply continues, and your friend continues to use it that anyone will ever know, or care !
- it would be a good idea however to open and use a non-ISP email account such as gmail.com or whatever.
