they said i can get up to 3 meg?!?!?!?!?!?
so i went onto samknows and that said i can get upto 16 meg on adsl+2 so im a bit confused.

Check the distance to your exchange

    http://www.dslzoneuk.net/distance.php

This is straight line distance so your line will be longer but you need to be within about 1 mile to get 16Mbps and you'd probably get 3Mbps from 2.5miles (very very approximate)

If you have ADSL already just pop your attenuation from the router stats into - http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed2.php

Be like every other ISP can only rely on the BT database of line data. If that data is (for whatever historic reason) inaccurate then they can ONLY predict basedon that.

If you are considering Be Value -v- Be Unlimited the I would suggest that you instead go for o2 Home Broadband Premium - it's cheaper ANYWAY - and you have a 30-day moneyback guarantee so if you're aren't happy you can leave, and you can ANYWAY move down to o2 Standard if you are under 8Mbps modem synch and still get the £50 cashback & £50 mobile phone credit.

    See my analyses at
    http://cid-99aa6cf1226facfe.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/o2%20Broadband%20-v-%20Be%20There%20Broadband

That said if you do go for Be Value (which you may find cheaper/simpler if you can't be bother with an o2 PAYG SIM) you will find that Be ALSO let you upgrade to Be Unlimited (£175 for your first year versus £20-£60 for o2 Premium which is 95% the same product over the same network from the same Telefonica).

wow, just tested what i could get on o2 and they said i can get 17 MEG!!!
looks like i will be going with them as they offer the 30 day money back garentee.
just need to know if o2 are reliable.
    cheers everybody.
p.s. do you have to be on an o2 mobile phone contract to get it cheaper or can you have pay as go?

You can get the discount with PAYG as long as you top up £10 minimum every quarter.

O2 are fine and if you have or are prepared to change to an O2 mobile there is a £5 a month discount on already low prices. Sign up through Quidco or TopCashBack for a substantial cashback (it varies fairly regularly).

Be and O2 operate the same network and your phone line is the major factor in determining your delivered speed so you'll get the same speed whichever one you decide to go with (assuming you pick comparable products).

At the distance you've quoted then 16 or 17Mbps seems much more likely than 3Mbps unless BT took your line on a guided tour of the town before it reaches you.

o2 are very reliable and have 24x7 0800 UK based support for those times when you are worried.

DO definitely look at my documents (link in my earlier reply) as it includes a ONE PAGE summary about the o2 home BB discount for a mobile phone and gives you several tips/tricks/perks on how to get the most from your top-ups too!

There's even a link in there to blag £1 for being sent an o2 PAYG SIM to get it started :)
